Guest Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I thought I would start a thread on sleepers. Post any videos you have.
peter31a Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 OOohh! I thought we were going to discuss which of us liked sleeping the most. Oh well....moving on.....
Helix Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Good topic choice Lee, hope to see a few more Seen the Nova one before The farm truck is insane, like how it launches off the start
mikemodeler Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 The Nova's got a chute and a trailer hitch! The Chute is because it runs in the low 9's and the trailer hitch is because the owner took it on the Hot Rod Drag Week tour and had to pull a trailer with spare parts and tools. It also has a NHRA approved roll cage.
Ry4ns302 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) I personally am a foxbody guy. With that being said, I've seen some pretty quick "street cars"..on the street. I've been known to carry a jug of vht in the trunk..you know, just in case! . Of all the foxbody hustles I've seen, this one is my favorite, I'm just glad I never came across it. Patrick2005 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 There is a guy around my hometown the has a Pontiac Tempest. You wanna talk about a sleeper? It's faded red original paint, bench seat, steel wheels with dish hub caps and oh, yeah almost forgot.... a twin turbo big block!!!
MachinistMark Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 The plans for my 400 involve a 80's Chevy short bed fleet side and a set of widened factory rally and stock looking mini tubs. Under manifold nitrous as well
mnwildpunk Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 not sure would my 51 dodge be a sleeper? There are no markings to tell you I have a 392 hemi under the hood?
mikemodeler Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 not sure would my 51 dodge be a sleeper? There are no markings to tell you I have a 392 hemi under the hood? Does it pull the front wheels off the ground when you launch it? I think that is what comes to mind for most people when they think of a sleeper, a vehicle with an unsuspecting look to it but with massive horsepower and performance. I knew a guy who drove an 81 Malibu wagon with steel wheels and whitewalls. For added effect he went to Goodwill and bought a baby seat for the back seat and threw a couple of blankets in the "way back" to look like a grocery getter Mom-mobile. Those blankets hid his nitrous tanks and the car would run mid 10 second passes in the quarter mile, made many a fool out of Vette, Camaro, Mustang and other muscle car owners!
Joe Handley Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 (edited) Apparently there have been some van guys at AMS Performance. BTW, they seem to favor Iron Maiden for these videos Edited January 17, 2013 by Joe Handley
Joe Handley Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 And then there's this new one that AMS posted the other night. I think this one must be the same as in the AMS video, if he wasn't in Vegas on vacation, he must have a new job at AMS!
JunkPile Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I have seen that baby in person. Rough as a cobb to look at, but under that patina is lots of go-fast goodies.
Jantrix Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 That Nova is mighty impressive, but holy cow! that truck is insane. I've never seen anything hook up like that. I'm going to have to find something in my stash that might make a good sleeper.
TheRX7Project Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Back when I was an avid street racer (yeah yeah I know) there was a guy with a very non-suspect red Camaro. It looked completely stock from the outside. Stock wheels and tires even. He had some goofy spoiler on it but that was it. Not even an exhaust note to give you a hint. He was spraying something like a 250 shot through it. Launched soft, then suddenly took off like a rocket.
grayghost Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Ya got love the way that the OKC farm trucks body twists up when he nails her to the floor.
MachinistMark Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Novas great. Nre's rx7 is kickass. Look it up. 1650 horse 2nd gen r x7. Runs on pump gas. Idles like a stock vette . 16 inches of vaccum. Etc.
mk11 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Reminds me of an article in a muscle car mag a couple of years ago. Guy had a rough '64 or '65 ranchero and found a busch series v8 for it. Did all the suspension and roll cage work then welded a lawn mower handle into the back and went hunting victims.. as the article explains, he was apparently spanking cobras and other unlucky challengers on the track. mike
