cobraman Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Maybe I should say stupid things I do. : ) Did a couple of stupid things the past couple of weeks and though I would share and see if anyone else has these types of goofs. A couple weeks ago I had shot a coat of clear on a car body. I went back later to lay down a second coat and I stupidly picked up the wrong can. Much to my surprise I was shooting silver paint on a blue car body. Doh ! Now today while working on the Cobra funny car build I had assembled part of the engine and then decided it was time to put the seatbelt decals on the seat. I did and put on some what I thought was my Solveset. Looked and saw the decals not setteling in like normal. I looked and discovered I put down Instaset for the glue. Stupid, stupid, stupid. They don't even apply the same way. Was I rushing or mabe a couple of senior moments ? Anyone care to share their mishaps ?
Ben Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I think we all have probably done things like this. Just proves your a good ol' human.
philo426 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Wow!I can imagine the look on your face when the silver paint came out!Oh no!Well you can always repaint it so it is just an annoying inconvenience.Nothing was destroyed so it is all good!
High octane Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 If I wrote down all the stupid things I have done over the years, it would take a LOT of paper. Just remember that we ALL do stupid things at one time or another, whether we admit it or not.
Tom Geiger Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I think we've all done the wrong color paint thing. I remember picking up flat black instead of clear. Not great results! It's all in how we recover and how we prevent a relapse. For instance, one of the things I noticed was that the can of Duplicolor primer got lost amongst my cans.. so now I wrap a piece of blue masking tape around the can. Now it stands out. To keep myself from picking up the wrong color, I have trained myself to put the can I'm using in the spray booth with what I just freshly sprayed. So now I can just grab the can in the booth for a second coat. You can train yourself! For instance, I need to wear sun glasses to drive during the day. If I don't the glare instantly gives me a headache. So I trained myself 30 years ago to take off the glasses and put them on the lower dashboard before I get out of a car. It took a while to remember to do it, but now I don't even think about it. Automatic reflex. And believe me there's lots of stupid things I still do!
Porscheman Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Ray, I did those things also. Have you ever started to spray and realize the nozzle was backwards and painted your hand?
gtx6970 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I refuse to answer on the grounds it may incriminate me.
cobraman Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Ray, I did those things also. Have you ever started to spray and realize the nozzle was backwards and painted your hand? Haven't done that one yet but give me some time and I'm sure I will. : )
The70judgeman Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I recently used solvaset, by accident, to glue some pieces together. The funny part was I tried three or four times to glue the pieces together before I realized the bottle wasn't the Plastruct Bondene I intended to use. I thought the glue went bad.
Eshaver Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Ray, I'm going to mail ya some of my Louisiana grade coffee. Don't worry, I only use the best Bayou water available !
Agent G Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Microscale's Micro Set and Micro Sol are in the same bottle but Micro Sol has a red label. Microscale's Liquid Decal Film is also in the same bottle and has blue labeling. Imagine my surprise when I brushed a layer of decal film onto a surface and watched the acrylic paint dissolve. Thank goodness it self levels and dries rapidly. Also thank goodness a large decal will go over that spot. Used a can of flat white instead of gloss white once. Not a real issue, a little clear coat remedied that, but man was I surprised when it dried dead flat. There were days I painted everything but the model. NEVER NEVER NEVER drink a can of Coke while building. I used an empty 12 oz can for dirty laquer thinner once. Drank that frikkin' thing too.............................. G

The only time I've ever done it, and it was a Round2 box art kit that was needed for photography like, yesterday.I managed to patch up the paint and replaced the ruined decals (black stripes) with black Bare Metal and pinstriping tape. Thank God it didn't show up on the box, but every time I look at it I squint and look really close just to make sure.
Kit Basher Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 How many of you have NOT glued your fingers together with Super Glue? I've done it several times. I'm sure glad there's debonder!
1930fordpickup Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Ray, I did those things also. Have you ever started to spray and realize the nozzle was backwards and painted your hand? I did this at work while the boss watched . He laughed hard. LOL
cobraman Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks guys. Starting to feel a little better about myself. : )
Deathgoblin Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 yes to any and all of the above. Stabbed myself in the thumb earlier with my exacto knife while trying to disassemble a glue bomb.
tooltas Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 why the glue sticks to your hands but not the part wene it does you and part is one
pack rat Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 How about knocking over a full bottle of Ambroid, all over your pristine painted/detailed model bits?
Harry P. Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 How about knocking over a full bottle of Ambroid, all over your pristine painted/detailed model bits? No... that's way too stupid! Nobody would ever do that!
Tom Geiger Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 How about knocking over a full bottle of Ambroid, all over your pristine painted/detailed model bits? Nope, but I did knock over a full beer into a newly finished interior tub!
pack rat Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Nope, but I did knock over a full beer into a newly finished interior tub!Hey.....I did that with a can of Dr Pepper (at least) once!
Tom Geiger Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Hey.....I did that with a can of Dr Pepper (at least) once! Yea, not a pretty picture... flocking, acrylic paints, paper details ... at least it wasn't this one:
