GMP440 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Came across this MPC order form showing a picture of the 68' Coronet being modeled and prepared for production. Very interesting to see some of the process of what was done to get kits into production. What do the companies do with large scale mockups after the kit has finished it's production run? It was a dissapointment to all when 5 years ago , there was an announcement that the 68 Coronet was going to come out again but then was cancelled. I sure hope that Round 2 will go ahead reissue this kit. Never say never, we have seen vintage kits that we thought would never come out again and sure enough they did come out. Maybe the 68 will be on the hobby shop shelves again. Edited July 31, 2013 by GMP440
johnbuzzed Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Did anyone else notice that the price for the kits was just $1.00? Even then, that was cheap- the local discount store wanted at least $1.59 for those kits.
Eshaver Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Does this renew my hope that Round 2 it may yet re release a 1959 Mercury convertible .................................. No.
george 53 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 IF the mold WASN'T modded for the 69 R/T it would be the next logical move! I've used the new RR/GTX/SB chassis, engine compartment in over a dozen old MPC 60's Mopar kits and they have all fit with very little mods. Mostly just trimming around the rear trunk fillers and maybe trimming the length just a tad.
espo Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 John mentioned the $1 price and the regular price being $1.57. The sad thing , and hard for some younger people today to understand is that with inflation that is about the same as $15,00 today.
ChrisBcritter Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Take another look at the order form - they offer '69 Charger and Coronet assembled model kits (promos?) as well as the Charger customizing kit. What magazine was this from? Maybe the $1.00 price was aimed at Dodge dealers only?
Casey Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 What do the companies do with large scale mockups after the kit has finished it's production run? I think most of the 1/10 scale masters/buck(?) were thrown away eventually. Tom West saved the Revell Attempt 1 1/10 styling buck and donated it to the International Model Builders' Museum a few years ago.
gtx6970 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Looking at the picture of the partially boxed kits. I think thats the 1968 Color Me Gone Charger funnycar kit . I don't rememeber ever seeing a molded in blue 1968 Coronet kit
slusher Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 l wonder how many stashes may have that 68 coronet in them.
