2000-cvpi Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 There's 63 votes out of over 10000 registered members of this forum. That alone should be enough proof that the ads are a better money making option than members paying or donating.
Tom Geiger Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 From what I have been told about the bigger Magazines is that adds pay for it . Our subscription is only extra money for the magazine. That is why you can get bigger Magazines (hot rod, playboy)for a dollar an issue or so. And that's why it drives me nuts when somebody comes on the board and does the comparison that Model Cars Magazine should be $10 a year because they get another magazine for that price. The big magazines have huge circulations and yes, is pretty much paid for by the advertising. And they'll beg you to take that magazine for near free so that they can command the advertising prices by circulation. My wife subscribed to Oprah Magazine for a year. Then she didn't renew. She got a bunch of renewal pleas and they never stopped sending issues! The latest piece she got from them offered her the magazine for $5 a year. We just laughed. She didn't want the magazine.
sjordan2 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I would pay if it were necessary to keep the site running, but I think that would turn off many of our members, who would no longer participate on the forum.
1930fordpickup Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 and then, they would form another one. If they would not pay say 20 bucks to be on here why would they spend thousands to start their own ? Just wondering.
ScaleDale Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 only if they're models, too This has me thinking that the mag would sell better if it had a chick of the month like the 1:1 mags do. Seems to work for them. I mean, they are "models" right? Dale

LoneWolf15 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I like your thinking, Dale. I don't ! You two would end up with either dehydration from all the slobbering or your pace makers would start running backwards ! Lmao !
crazyjim Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 No pacemaker yet, Donn. Gregg should like the idea. We slobber all over the magazine and then have to buy another to keep pristine in the archives.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Public Broadcasting has had to accept intrusive advertising into their programming because so many folks want something for nothing, and seem to think it's always the other guy who should pay their way. You just can't fight the cheap and selfish aspects of human nature, so let the ads remain, whatever it takes to keep this going.
southpier Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) a number of other sights have ads (not poppers) which I imagine are there to offset operating expenses. the ads are relevant to the site theme, so just like in magazine-dom, they are a source of some information and somewhat helpful.
