JollySipper Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 We all have stories about "the one that got away"... there are a couple of cars that I wish I had not let slip through. These cars may have been kind of rare, not valuable, but scarce. When I was a teen, a lady gave my dad a '60 Fairlane 500 just to get it out of her yard. I've seen lots of '60 Fords, but they were all Starliners. The car was black, not sure of the engine but it had a 3 speed trans. We could never get a title for the car, so it was sold. Another car I missed out on was a '72 Dart Swinger. It was a 318/auto car, nothing special there, but it was ordered in triple white (paint, vinyl top, interior). I've never seen another car like these two. Should I be kicking myself for letting these cars get by?
Harry P. Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Only if you enjoy self-abuse. They're gone. You can't rewrite history. Onward...
JollySipper Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Yea, the Ford is long gone, but I could still track down the Dart, I think...... What is the most frustrating is that I found out later that it's relatively easy to get a title here in NC....
cobraman Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 TJ, I think we all have cars in our past that we wish we still had or would have purchased. Too late now, all we can do is go forward.
slusher Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 IF you could get the Ford back more then likely you would have to put money in it. To sell it for any amout you have to find a buyer who really wants it. We all have those what if stories. Once it's over we can't change it....
Lunajammer Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I think we all have cars like that we think about. The reason you or I don't have them is because our better judgement prevailed at the time; to pricey, too much work, not the right time, etc., etc. but we sure wish we could have. If the Dart was such a sure thing, even now, you wouldn't be asking us. Let 'em go.
JollySipper Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Would any of you guys care to share a story of how you let one slip by you? Lots of cool guys on here who I'm sure have owned lots of cool cars.....
Lunajammer Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Would any of you guys care to share a story of how you let one slip by you? Lots of cool guys on here who I'm sure have owned lots of cool cars..... '60 Chrysler Saratoga (photo is DeSoto but same look & colors) in early 1980's for $2,000, which was every penny of what I had at the time. Fresh out of storage, hadn't been run in years but otherwise in fabulous, lightly used condition. Would've been my first car but knew I didn't have the money to get in good running order. Price seemed a little steep at the time but it was within reach and it's my dream car. I often think of it but my choice not to buy at that time was correct.
blunc Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I had a '65 Catalina wagon that I got real cheap and wanted to turn it into a 'Camino....ran out of time, money and space due to my other project cars, but it would have been a sweet cruiser.
tbill Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 years ago I had a 67 rambler rebel convertible, rough around the edges, but drove it every day for 8 months or so, then it lost reverse, after that I stored it for awhile at a friends, then life got involved and I lost track of the friend and the car. about 6 months ago I learned they made like 1700 of these cars that year. rare, yes, desireable/big money? probably not so much. although I wouldn't mind having it back.
