What if Mercedes Benz was not first to invent the "Automobile", what if GM had invented the "Model T" instead of Ford

Mercedes-Benz likes to claim in their advertising that they invented the automobile, but they didn't. Depending on what you believe to be the first "real" automobile, it was either Gottlieb Daimler or Karl Benz, who were working concurrently only a few miles apart but were largely unaware of each other's efforts... (or even the Frenchman Cugnot in the 1700s with his dorky steam tractor if you want to expand the definition of "automobile"). In either case, M-B didn't even exist at the time that Daimler and Benz came out with their respective machines.

Same with the Model T. GM didn't exist when Ford came out with the Model T.

(Excuse me for being a "know-it-all"... I'm sure I'll be hearing about it soon enough... ^_^ )

Let me try this again, what if GM was in Ford's place and invented the Model T

And, what if 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagon was not invented by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft's and Karl Benz's

Then I guess GM would have made a lotta money instead of Ford! :D

Or... there would have been a Chevy Model T, and a Buick Model T, and an Olds Model T...

I'm asking exactly what I'm asking. You posed the "what if," so I'm asking you what you think of your own "what if." What if GM made the Model T instead of Ford?

I think I follow you, sorry , not on my game right now, I think that if it was GM instead of Ford, that Ford might not of come to be IMHO, or if so, they would came along later on in the game, but I really dont think I can answer, it could go many different ways, I could say that Ford would came to be, but then went the way of the Tucker, there are so many things that could of happened.

What if Henry's last name was... let's say, Goldstein or Kowalski or Buzzerio or something other than Ford? Try to imagine that kind of blue oval logo.

What if contemporary cars had real names that made some sense, instead of imaginary words as model names? Who would want to drive an "Armada"? What about a "Flotilla" or "Squadron"? What if people knew that the "MK" used by Lincoln actually is an abbreviation for "mark", as in version, as in Continental Mark 4. "MKZ"... I don't think that sounds appealing at all.

(And, please, I mean no offense to anyone who might have either one of those above surnames).

So what do you think would have been if GM made the Model T?

Hmm, does that mean we would have seen more Ford small block powered hot rods instead of the other way around Harry??? :D:D

I was under the impression that the Viper was conceived at the Chrysler Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad, California, in the late '80s, Bob Lutz liked what he saw, and being a "car guy" rather than a bean counter, gave the green light to produce it. I have never heard any version where Chrysler engineers were sent to Kenosha and told to come up with something new, or where any AMC designers were involved.

Again... not to be a "know it all," just want to hear more about this, as I've never heard this story before.

Harry, the story was in Bob Lutz's book "Guts". It's an amazing book about the transformation of Chrysler. I loaned out my copy and never got it back, I need to get a new one since I wouldn't mind reading it again and keeping it as a permanent reference.

What if Canada's Mercury truck division had gotten their version of the Bronco; what would it've been called?

What if GMC had kept its pickup line more divergent from Chevrolet and developed a new BB V6?

What if Ford had competed with the Suburban in North America from day one (lots of Ford pickup-based wagons in South America)?

What if you traveled back in time to the days when paper was made by hand, one sheet at a time and told people that one day, paper will be so cheap, we'll wipe our behinds with it?

Interesting story. I don't think I've ever heard that before.

What if the Seaside Heights boardwalk in NJ was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, then rebuilt in record time, only to be totally destroyed by a fire?

Yea, it's on fire right now.

Does God have a problem with NJ?
