Clemi Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hello guys, I hope you can help me. I search a new X-Acto knife. They which I have are only cheap knifes from the hardware store but I want one which lays good in my hand and don't hurt after some minutes. I founded this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiskars-SoftGrip-Comfort-Precision-Xacto-Knife-Blue-NIP-/270745346768?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f09ae22d0 And this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-X-Acto-Gripster-Knife-w-Safety-Cap-Red-X3623-NIB-/290846669331?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b7cffa13 They look good, so my question is if anyone has one of the knifes or have good skills with an other knife. Please tell it me
retired & glad Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I like the looks of the Fiskars. It looks like it would be comfortable to use. Richard
crazyjim Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I'm partial to X-Acto. Can you get replacement blades for the Fiskars easily?
slusher Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 The Friskars looks great. l have never been a fan of the x-Acto knife to heavy...
Tom Geiger Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I use that eXacto with the soft handle. It uses the standard number 11 blades and it's easy on your hand.
Erik Smith Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 The handle is user's choice - whatever feels good in your hand. So, with contoured handles, you would have to try it first to see. The blades are pretty much universal and matter a lot more than what holds them.
Skip Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Some people I've worked with over the years in sign shops and such like to slip the rubberized pencil grips over the xacto handle. I've got triangular shaped ones on some of mine they don't roll off the table as easy. I like the xacto no.11 for the stuff that I do.
1930fordpickup Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I like the lower twist lock on the X-Acto knife. Like skip says put on the rubber grips if you are having trouble with gripping the knife.
ScaleDale Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I have that X acto and I like the feel. its easy to change blades too. Dale
PappyD340 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I have always used X acto, I have one that I've had for years and it's lightweight and fits my hand well, and I just like the way it feels, but that's just my preference!
sjordan2 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I have the standard metal handles -- a bit too slippery for my taste in any thickness (though masking tape wrap can cure that) -- plus a rubber handle and a thick, grooved wood handle in a cased set of assorted blades and handles. I find that the wood handle provides the best, most comfortable grip. Also, surgical steel scalpel blades cut cleaner and last longer.
Clemi Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Thanks for all the answers! I ordered the fiskars knife today and I will try it, maybe I will buy one of the x-acto gripster knifes later. And rubber grips are on my shopping list, too
Crazy Ed Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 For those that find the good 'ol X-Acto's to be slippery look into a product called Plasti Dip. You can get in in a Dipping, Spray Can or Brushable forms. For less than $10 a large Club could have a Coating Party and deSlip everyones X-Acto handles !
