peekay Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) I'm posting this one for my mate Marco here in Switzerland. He used to own a 62 TBird and is currently turning a basket case 61 into a couch. Ouch! This is a $20 Promo which I've refined - or ruined, depending on your attitude to promos. Paint is Zero base coats with Tamiya clear. All chrome parts, the tyres and the dash are Modelhaus replacements. (The dash because I broke the original while trying to seperate it from the interior.) I used the steering wheel from the AMT kit. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Edited August 9, 2017 by peekay
jaydar Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I think you did an excellent job on that one. Joe.
Erik Smith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Looks better than a promo! Nice work - I like that color.
1930fordpickup Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Awesome Thunderbird. Great save of the promo .
Guest Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Very nice Thunderbird Peter! The color really suits it well! I see nothing wrong with "restoring" basket case promos. I won't modify a really nice promo. But, I'll sure do it to a rough one! Nice work!
Chris White Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Big fan Peter, love your builds. Do you build any customs of only stock?
peekay Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Thanks everybody, much appreciated.Do you build any customs of only stock?Chris, when I first built mdels in the early sixties I ONLY built customs and hot-rods but since I got back into it in the 80s it's been all stock - so far: I've got a white 59 Impala on the bench which will get a VERY mild custom look, inspired by a Marcos Cruz model. There's a hot rod down the line somewhere too, I'v got all the ingredients.
Ron Hamilton Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 That is one beautiful model, but I am partial to "Bullet Birds", as I drove a '62 in high school.
o-man Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Gosh your work is fantastic. Love the detail of tail lights
peekay Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 .....but I am partial to "Bullet Birds", as I drove a '62 in high school.Ron, you're killing me! I went on the bus!
bbowser Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Real nice! I'm working on the AMT convertible right now, I hope it comes out half as nice.
realgone58 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 You've refined it, my friend. Gorgeous! I've got a '61 promo that I will be doing eventually.
charlie8575 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 That came out very nicely, Peter. The two-tone is an interesting treatment on this, too. Charlie Larkin
slusher Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Outstanding build. Paint is flawless. You do excellent work Peter...
lambrakos Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Nice and clean. Hope mine turns out like that!!
peekay Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Thanks everyone, much appreciated.I actually like the the overall shape of the promo better than the AMT kit.
