Just another good reason I left that crummy state - besides the weather.  "Crook County, Illinois (more crooked politicians per square mile than any other county!"  And how many of them are still in jail?

Not enough of them, if you ask me.

Geez... how much more of my money are they going to take from me???

You work for yourself, Harry, so I imagine you could live anywhere.   What are you waiting for?  MOVE

Good question, Jim.

I think the answer is that I have lived in Illinois all my life... first in Springfield (as a baby), then in Chicago until I was 27... now in the NW suburbs. I guess the idea of pulling up stakes and moving sort of intimidates me. That, and the fact that moving a houseful of krap across country would probably cost me 10 grand or so. Then there's the hassle of selling the house and finding and buying a new one, etc. It all seems like a huge hassle to me, so basically inertia has kept me here.

But you're right. I should just bite the bullet and get the heck outta Dodge. Sometimes I sit here and wonder to myself... why the hell do I stay?

I lived in "Crook County" for 48 years and that was enough for me. I'm glad that I'm out of there.

Harry my Wife and I are Calif. Natives since Truman was Prez. We've been in Arizona since 2000. Just couldn't take it any more. The hardest part of moving for us was Packing!

(sorry 'bout the weird quote - the editor is driving me Nuts.)

What I was attempting to say is this. That's a good idea if you are looking for a kit. I was bidding on a lot of spare parts which included two sets of fenders I really wanted.

Wow!

Editor is all screwed up.

Harry I was born, raised and worked an entire career in St Louis. The only time I left was courtesy of Uncle Sam and his Misguided Children. With retirement looming large I knew it was time. Weather, taxes, housing and just general mayhem helping to decide the outcome, I took my then wife and moved to Nevada.

I had planned to work part time in the casino industry but was lucky enough to score the job I have now.

It isn't easy, but it's not for everyone. I'd move to northern Lake County in a heartbeat if it weren't for the weather. Now it looks like my BIL and SIL are moving out here soon anyway. They are the only reason I'd move back.

Harry, come to Arizona ! Sure you will cook in the summer but you will never have to shovel snow. ( Unless you move up north ) Don't you have a convertible ? You could drive it almost every day !  I was in Illinois the first 27 years of my life and then to California and about 7 years ago to Arizona. I'm pretty happy here. House has air, cars have air, stores have air, not that bad.

You'd only Cook if you want to be below average, in elevation. Arizonas avg el is 4000' so as long as you're avg or above the heat's not a real issue! And as long as you stay below 6000', snow's not really an issue.

I actually liked Phoenix when I lived there, other than getting shot at once

We don't allow that any more.  You must have been here pre-SB1070.   Try us again.  B)

It's certainly better than Chicago in that regard.

Just do it Harry.  We left all our family and friends in Illinois 15 years ago.  We didn't know anybody in FLA, but we went anyway.  The biggest mistake we made was moving just about everything with us.  After the move, we realized we should have sold as much as we could in Aurora and bought new down here.  Live and learn.  Wheaton Movers did a fabulous job and nothing was broken or damaged.

That is the one thing the third MrsG and I did before moving to Vegas. We sold a ton of stuff before the final move. Made a big difference.

When we sold our house in Yorba Linda California the wife and I were not sure where we wanted to locate we just knew we wanted out of California. One of my SIL had a large house so we moved in there till we decided where to go. We ordered a "POD" and put a lot of stuff in it and in storage. It took us two years to move again and we decided on Arizona and were having a new house built. As it turned out we spent more for two years of POD storage and then the cost of having the POD delivered to the new house then the contents were worth. Ended up buying mostly new furniture anyway. : (

One could consider using U-Haul to ship your fromage.

There storage containers are 8x10 and they'll drop em off.  Then once you're done packing, they pick up and drive across country.

You can simply buy a biz class ticket and enjoy a nice flight to your new home.

One figures 2 containers per 1,000 sq feet of fromage once you've sold stuff on say Craigslist etc...

Anyways, just some ideas.

I too love cheese.

Glad you asked, otherwise that post just kinda goes nowhere

I too love cheese.

I have 3 kinds of cheddar, blue, Feta, two kinds of Swiss, Colby, jack, and a Brie....plus cream and grated Parmesan.

It just may be time for a cheese-on-cheese sandwich. :D
