mnwildpunk Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 at least someone found a good use for them.lol My other cat get jelious of this one because he is to fat to fit in one. In fact one day I watched him collapse the sides of the box; as he struggled to fit inside the box seams just came unglued.
slusher Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 l love cats always into something. l lost mine a few years ago and going to get another one...
Scuderia Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Cats are very calming creatures, even if they are raising hell lol. I've considered getting one, not much of a dog guy. But yeah aside from that use, I currently have my completes back in their boxes until i get display cabinets.
PappyD340 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Yep, that's what I do with mine, put the completed kit back in and store it in a cabinet!
mnwildpunk Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 I have always wondered why they love to sleep in something that has sides? all my cats if it's a box laundry basket, drawers, wash basin they will crawl in it. I even found one in a kettle that my son was playing with. (insert bad chinese food joke here lol) The more confined of a fit the more they seem to like it

But they sure are fun to have around lol.
Tom Geiger Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I rip them up and throw in the garbage. Cats??? You couldn't mean model boxes since you are supposed to recycle those!
crazyjim Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 In order to recycle around here, you have to save the stuff, load it in your vehicle, and haul it to the recycling center. It's not worth my time or a 40 mile round trip. It goes in the garbage. We lost our Sabrina about 5 years ago and her loss still hurts. So much so that we don't want to get another critter only to have our hearts broken again.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I will use some of my empty boxes to store spares bodies, chassis', etc in, but some I just fold up and save in case someone ones one same as I do instruction sheets. Some older ones I have even hung on the wall as decoration.
JohnU Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Or you could try selling them on eBay like some yeahoos do for $5.00 to $20 a pop plus shipping! Good luck with that!
crazyjim Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 You gotta be kidding me. People pay real money for an empty box?
peekay Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I love old boxes and have bought several on Ebay!(Yeah I know, I'm crazy...)
Harry P. Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 You gotta be kidding me. People pay real money for an empty box? If people will pay real money to buy a potato chip that looks like Jay Leno, they'll pay real money to buy empty model kit boxes. Or dryer lint. Or the shavings from inside a pencil sharpener. I once saw a small vial of "Elvis sweat" on ebay. No joke. Jim Morrison was absolutely right. People are strange.
JohnU Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Yeah and this should probably go in the "what irked you today" thread, I almost bid on one of those empty rare boxes thinking I was bidding on an actual kit until I read the discription and put on the brakes! I hate it when I see a kit that I've not seen before only to find its an empty box!
crazyjim Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I love old boxes and have bought several on Ebay! (Yeah I know, I'm crazy...) I'd be happy to start saving mine for you as long as you cover the shipping, Peter.
High octane Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 l love cats always into something. l lost mine a few years ago and going to get another one... I would like one in a heartbeat as I had to have mine put down almost three years ago. But we redecorated the house including new carpeting, and my asthma doctor suggests I don't have any cats or dogs. Yeah, I could get another doctor. LOL!
Tom Geiger Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I've bought a handful of model boxes in my day. Interesting ones or my favorite box art. Never for big money. I have used old model boxes for parts boxes and such. I have a bunch of them I use to transport my built models to shows. They sit in the corner near my display case, with the necessary plastic peanuts inside. Some of them have a divider so I can put two models in one. I have torn up and recycled some boxes, but I won't do that to older boxes. I carefully fold them up and I have a large box of them I've saved. And since cats have been mentioned, I've never had a cat. I have had cat friends and they seem to like me. Back when I was dating, a girlfriend had a cat named Mauser who would always come right to me when I came over. Later on there was a neighborhood cat named Okay, who would come sit on the fender of my car as I did engine work. Most recently we were at the vet's office with my dog and they had a free range cat in the office who was roaming around. He decided to plant himself on my lap. Oh, TJ my dog was not happy, but so stressed about his own impending doom at the vet that he didn't complain! In my family we always had a dog. My mother had a thing for schnauzers so we had a succession of them. My sister still does. When I got married, we soon got Sandy, a mixed terrier rescue whose owner had died. Once he passed, we agreed no more dogs until 6 years later when I came home to find puppy TJ. My wife got him for my daughter who was afraid of dogs. He's now 13 and once he goes, I doubt we'll get another. Edited October 21, 2013 by Tom Geiger
mnwildpunk Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Tom trust me I was never a cat fan until my at the time gf bought two kittens and both latched onto me. Soon after I got my mojo who a friend couldn't keep anymore and he is my best friend now. Still rather have a dog lol
Chillyb1 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Here's Xerxes the Magnificent trying out a Tamiya box: And he's not a boxsteader (yes, that's the correct term). Being in boxes or other locations with all sides covered from attack is something all cats seek to some extent. Female cats are more prone to the behavior because they have to give birth to and then protect their kittens. Oh, and I just flatten my old boxes and put them in the recycling bin.
Harry P. Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Here's Xerxes the Magnificent trying out a Tamiya box: That's a pretty high-falutin' name for a cat!
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 If people will pay real money to buy a potato chip that looks like Jay Leno... OMG !! OMG !!! Where did you see that potato chip??? I HAVE TO HAVE IT !!!!! OMG !!!!!!!!!
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I once had a striped tomcat that looked a lot like Xerxes. My girlfriend had him fixed when I was out of town...the cat would never look me in the eye after that. Poor kitty. I always thought she REALLY wanted to do it to ME. Same girlfriend who sold my '58 Karmann Ghia and a BMW Isetta for scrap, again while I was away.
mustang1989 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I usually save them especially if its a kit that 1) already has a lot of "goodies" in it or 2) I purchased a lot of "goodies" for it so I can keep all the spare stuff in a box that I can look at and use stuff from. I have a couple of old kits that I may keep parts of the box for just to cut and put under my glass on my workbench.
