tim boyd Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Ron....great job on that Charger, and the RR too! I think I used the racing mirrors from the Monogram/Revell '70 Challenger T/A on my builds of the '71 Charger R/T....TIM
Danno Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Tim, Love your Charger! What paint did you use? I had a 1:1 '74 Charger in that color - no vinyl top. Beautiful car! (Yours and mine.)
mikemopar70 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) I agree with you about the mirrors. There are no exact duplicates of those mirrors in scale. When I did the '74 Road Runner, I scratchbuilt a set of them. I started on a set for this one. I have to work on them a little more, and I may install them if I can get them to look right. I have some touch up to do to it. The 1971 Plymouth Duster from AMT has them!! Or the AMT 1970 Dodge Challenger (Yankee Challenge or R/T)... By the Way both of these Mopars are awesome, congratulations guys!! Edited October 31, 2013 by mikemopar70

By the Way both of these Mopars are awesome, congratulations guys!! I am aware of those mirrors, and I have those kits, but I want to use the mirrors when I build those cars. I have a set of mirrors from a '74 Road Runner in my stash, which I used to as a basis on the Road Runner. I have to reshape them, paint, and install them on the car.

I bought several AMT '71 Chargers while they were cheap, and used their guts under other Mopar projects, such as the '73 Road Runner upgrade, and '70 'Cuda Glue-bomb restoration. I shortened the chassis for this one. This one is going to be a Hemi Orange 1972 Charger Rallye. 400 Magmum/4-Speed. I test drove one when I was a 17 year old. My Dad scuttled the deal after talking to the insurance man. I also have an unbuilt '73 Charger, and a resin '72 Road Runner for my other Charger Chassis and running gear.
tim boyd Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) Ron...thanks for those additional super-cool project pictures. Like you, I was just a little too young to get my dream car - in my case, a new '71 Charger SE with the 440 Magnum and the 15" Goodyears/Rally Wheels. And now that I think about it, as Mike did above, I think I got my racing mirrors from the AMT-Ertl '708 Challenger as well, not the Revell T/A as I said above. I did eventually get a pretty good substitute - a factory ordered '74 Plymouth RoadRunner with the E58 360 hi-po, and among other things, the Interior Décor group what you've replicated in your build above. Which as you have shown, used the same bucket and bench seat sew pattern as that '71 Charger SE. Here are a couple of pictures (apologies to you and anyone else if you've seen these before). For anyone interested in my '74 RR, more details at the link. http://public.fotki.com/funman1712/tims-11-scale-cars-/tims-11-scale-cars/ Best regards! TIM Edited November 1, 2013 by tim boyd

When I was in high school, my Dad wanted to give me a car for graduation. Of course we had different opinions of what I should have. Some of the cars I test drove, but rejected by him was: '72 Dodge Charger Rallye (400/4spd) '73 Ford Gran Torino Sport (351 Cleveland/C-6) '74 Plymouth 'Cuda (360/Torqueflite) In hind sight, I would not have been able to keep them up, and attend college by myself. Dad knew this, and cooler heads prevailed. I always had a car to drive through high school and college, as my parents had more than one car at their disposal, and I had access to them, so I could not be too mad at him. When I purchased my first car (1978 Camaro), I appreciated it all that much more, and yes, I am going to build a model of it. I have the kit(s), and all of the parts to replicate it. I may do it next year.
bandit1 Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Isnt the 70 Challanger T/A revell kit have the sport mirrors?...
