bondo bill Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Here's an AMT Beverly Hillbillies issue. I used a '50s Olds engine and a stakebed from a AMT '34 Ford truck. The wood graining is handpainted. I'd like some input on the wheels. The choices I have available are either mags or painted steel wheels. Any thoughts? Comments welcome!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I would go with the mags... Nice start
slusher Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Great looking woodgrain, very neat project. l also like the mags...
cobraman Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 The mags for sure. Good looking wood. I mean the truck bed. get your mind out of the gutter. : )
Chuck Most Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 It can't be a '29 (last year for that Olds Economy Truck was 1923), but other than that everything is looking A-OK. Normally I'd tell you to go with painted steel wheels, but those Cragars would look pretty good too. So I'm gonna go ahead and recommend the mags this time.
ChrisBcritter Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 It's actually a 1921 Olds. Here's a nice walkaround of an original: One big but correctable error on the kit is the honeycomb on the radiator should be flush with the front of the radiator shell. It's an easy fix - just insert the radiator into the shell, mark around the opening, remove it, then carve away around the outline until it fits flush with the front of the shell.
Modlbldr Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Nice so far. Given the two choices I'd go with the mags. How about the steel wheels from the 36 Ford with the rear wheels widened a bit using a sleeve in the front? Later-
