Dragfreak Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 This think has been around for awhile, '71 vega elcamino. I say its a disgrace to both the vega and the elcamino as it is quite ugly and poorly executed. heres the link, http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/saint-louis/1971/chevrolet/vega-S4979.html
Ford guy Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I agree Jason, it's kinda awkward looking, poorly executed. I think the bed should have been shorter, about like the wagon. Plus, why did they put the engine in the bed? Everyone knows the engine compartment will hold a V-8 with no problems! It could have been done better, but to each his own I guess.
Dragfreak Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 yes it could be cool, but it definitely needs the engine up front a shorter bed, a 12 bolt or 9 inch to hold some power, and too much to list haha
Joe Handley Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) While I'm not sure bout the mid motor, steering wheel, and SS badge on the grill, I think it looks good! The stretch looked decently done, the Corvair rear is a bit novel and could be a bit C5-C7 Vette like with vintage parts if they kept the engine up front stretched body/wb or not. Unless you crawl under it and find it heavily butchered to the point it's unsafe to do anything other than look at, I can't find anything wrong with it other than I wouldn't have the money for it or the place to put it if I wanted to buy it. lordairgtar Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Yah, the steering wheel looks cheesy as does the dash with it's after market guages just kind of tacked on. I'da atleast carried over some wood grain to give continuity.
slusher Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 lt would be alot better with the engine under the hood..
Guest Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I like the basic look, agree the engine should be under the hood, and stock 4 bolt wheels with a V-8? I don't think so, but the basic look is cool.
Fabrux Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Ugh, looks like they grafted the front of a Vega on a 64-67 El Camino. Would've looked much better if they'd just stuck with the general proportions of a wagon.
george 53 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 They coulda just converted a wagon for ALOT less hassle and money. But, as was said, 'To each his own". Maybe he just wanted to be the only kid on the block with one....
Dragfreak Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Im pretty sure its a wagon because you can see the rear hatch is built into the cab and the bottom of the hatch is the tailgate, the rear quarters still have vega wagon/panel bofy lines.
Maindrian Pace Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Wild. Each picture shows more weirdness than the last. Narrative says it was built in the '70s for drag racing, I hope not because... healthy small block, four lug Cragars with slicks, Corvair transaxle... Kablooey. -MJS
