tbill Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 ok, my memory of this time is foggy/non-existent as I was 3-5 years old at the time, bit I remember my parents buying me snap together funny cars. I have no idea who made the kits, or what the drivers/cars were. anyone have any of these kits, or pictures of the kits from this time frame? it would be nice to see some, maybe it would jar the memory a bit. thanks, tom
disabled modeler Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Monogram made them but were small scale
Daddyfink Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Monogram had a series of Snap Together Funny Cars in 1/32 Scale. They where done by Tom Daniels and all had fictional names on them. It was not until the 80's that they started to make them with actual real car style markings.
Dave Van Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Monogram is thr only ones I know of. They made some early 70's that were generic and later 80's era that were name drivers....the same time they did the 1/32 snap NASCAR kits IIRC.....all were 1/32 scale.
Casey Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Check 'em out here: http://www.tomdaniel.com/85_kits/frm_85kits.html
tbill Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 guys, thanks! wow, what a flashback looking at those was, lol. funny though, as a little kid, they seemed waaayyy bigger, haha. thanks again, that was a fun trip back in time.
afxmustang Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I built quite a few of those for my son. I had some extra 1/25 decals and did some cutting and used them on the 1/32 cars. I did Ramchargers, Jungle Jim, Mongoose, Gene Snow and several others that I can't remember. I had a lot of fun doing them. In fact if they were available now I'd build some more.
Joe Handley Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I vaugly remember a green Mustang funny I had way back when, I'd take it apart and put it back together all the time.
Daddyfink Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Someone had one on their table at the kit show this past weekend. I picked it up and asked how much and he quickly grabbed it back and said it was not for sale, yet. I came back later and it was gone. Thanks for nothing!
Zarana-X Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) I had a generic one, I think it was MPC.In the early 80's I know Monogram did some that all used the same chassis. I had a Pepsi Challenge firebird and Budweiser King Ford something or other...Monogram also did a Dodge Duster, Rip-Offff. Had lil' wings that were on the side of the 1/4 panel. Not sure if the chassis from that one was used elsewhere. Edited November 13, 2013 by Zarana-X
Edsel-Dan Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 In 1/32 the Kenny Bernstien Bud King was a Merc Lynx I still have mine. And my resto original 72 annual Vega is in that box! I had a few of the "Fiend" Duster snaptite Funny car I don't remember the Pepsi Challenger in 1/32 scale They Did do it in 1/24. I had one. Also had Wendy's on it!!
lordairgtar Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I recall a funny car kit in 1/32nd that had Brut sponsorship and was molded in green.
