cobraman Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 This will be a long shot but worth a try. I received a box from the PO ( postage due ) : ) I picked it up today and found it to be a promo El Camino in perfect condition. I did not order this item. Since I have not believed in Santa Clause for at least two years I know this promo belongs to someone else. There is really no readable info on the messed up label. How it got to me I can't say. I would like the rightful owner to get this. I am posting in hopes perhaps someone here did a trade with me or someone else and got the address mixed up . ?????? Anyway, if it's yours and you want to claim it please just PM me with the year and color so I know it's yours and I will forward it to you. Thanks
Guest Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Maybe someone you know sent it to you as an early Christmas present?
cobraman Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 No, not a chance. I'm a Ford guy and I don't collect promos.
Greg Cullinan Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 If no luck finding the owner. Send it to whoever guesses year and color!
disabled modeler Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I like promos but never sent it....its a mystery?
cobraman Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I am thinking it may be a ebay sale. I will do a search of closed auctions and see it that shows me anything.
JamesW Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I like Elco's, but they HAVE to be '79. I hope it finds it's way to the owner. Kudos to you for being so honest.
1930fordpickup Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Good luck finding the owner. I say it is a dark red 78 .
cobraman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Good guess !!!!! It's wrong but still a good guess. : )
Casey Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I am thinking it may be a ebay sale. Was the shipping label from eBay, or was it hand-addressed? Tracking number? (Bronze '80 )
Edsel-Dan Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I have a 60 Built Kit coming from Spokane. Painted Green!! But, I just mailed the PMO for it so NOT shipped yet!
Erik Smith Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 1980 Cinnabar Red... Hope it finds its home, or maybe it will make a sad kid's movie...
slusher Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Ray, if you never find an owner I will take it off your hands. You a good guy, most people don't care.
cobraman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Mystery solved ! I found some small remnents of an ebay shipping label. I went to ebay and did a search of auctions that ended for this same promo. Found one and sent a message to the seller of this item. Sure enough it was the one he had sent to a customer. BTW it is a 1981 in Sandstone and looks to be perfect.
disabled modeler Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Ray, if you never find an owner I will take it off your hands. You a good guy, most people don't care. Ill second that one...
Tom Geiger Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Sure enough it was the one he had sent to a customer. and how did it wind up at your house? Did you do business with the dealer previously and he sent it to your address by mistake? Or was his label torn off on a reused box once sent to you?
cobraman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Yes, oddly enough it was a box that I had used at one time. They had torn off some of my old label and I guess put theirs over mine, theirs fell or was torn off and the po could see my address and brought it to me with postage due. It was shipped by a person who does a lot of model sales on ebay. n2flyin or something like that. Weird thing is that I have bought from him in the past but can't recall ever shipping to him. I guess I must have at some time oterwise how could he have one of my old shipping boxes ? Anyway, glad it's going to go back to the rightful owner.
Jantrix Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Ray, that was an excellent thing to do. Most would have just stuck it on the shelf and carried on with life. My hats off to you.
cobraman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks. If something of mine got sent to the wrong place I would like them to try and get it to me.
ChrisBcritter Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Lesson learned: Burnish down your shipping labels! I'll put clear packing tape over them sometimes to make sure.
