Guest Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Here's some photos of my '71 kit. It's only missing one rear slick and one custom wheel. I have a set of 19" Chrome D's to put on it when I get around to building it. I'm thinking about getting a chassis from a '76 and put the other suspension wheels/tires on it. I could then just do a chassis swap to change the look. I've also thought about just throwing all of the crazy parts onto a '76.
Rob Hall Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The MPC '70 Impala also has the high suspension parts...I think I'll build my '70 that way, since I have the AMT '70 built stock. The '68 and '69 ht and convertible kits are pretty sweet also.

I would like to see that one.

Guest Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 That is some cool box art! It's odd that it shows leaf springs on the rearend. Is that how the kit is or does it have coils?

Faust Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Wow, that's just... wow... I guess everything old is new again, eh? Not my taste, but my brother would love it stock. He's a 70's boat guy, and I'm an 80's loser guy. I can fit like 25% more kits on a shelf than him in the same scale! I don't really get why they'd want to do that in the 70's, but then again I don't know why people want to do it now. I need a Model T with big old-fashioned wood wheels that I can chrome up and then slam the body, to be a 20's lowrider. There's something that makes even this Chebby look credible!

Funkster Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Harry, that would be a drag race suspension, not 22" donk
Guest Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I'm sure the '71-'73 and '74-'76 bodys are from different molds ,,, way too many differences between them with things that didn't change on the 1/1 like windshield trim and rear marker lights, wheel openings, etc. I'll show you next time you're over Chris. That's what I was thinking. There was a big change in the roofs from '73 to '74. It really makes me wonder if it's possible that Round2 has the molds for the '73. I've been after a '72 Impala for a long time. They rarely come up on ebay and when they do, they always go for way more than I'm willing to pay. I would gladly trade my '71 for a '72.
Edsel-Dan Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Wish my 72 was more complete!! Interior is In the 73, as is the rear bumper! Hood is destroyed!! (Yea I glued the scoop on it and cut out underneath for the twin-turbo!) Grill was lost in 73 or so!!71 & 72 are almost Identical! 71 was molded in red, 72 in blue and body got a metallic clear-coat. It was called out as "Pre-painted Metallic Blue Body" on the box!! And, Yes, I would Love to finish the restoration on her!!!
58 Impala Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) http://smg.photobucket.com/user/dayes/media/004_zpsc4aa4d60.jpg.html My first 1:1 car was a 71 Impala, wish I could find one of these kits. I collect as many different Impala kits as I can find, but this is one I don't have. Edited December 14, 2013 by 58 Impala

They used the same basic chassis design from '65 until at least '76. There may have been differences in the wheelbases between the major body changes. Everything else was the same.

From what I've read, most all GM-B bodies from '58 or so on had coil rear suspensions except wagons which usually had leaf springs.
disabled modeler Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I have owned a 69,70,86 Impala before they were coil spring rears

mustang1989 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Now this definitely could qualify for the "weirdest kit in your stash" thread. I've never seen this!
Guest Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I'm referring to the "high rise" option in the kits, not the 1:1 cars... Now that makes sense! Sorry for the confusion Mark. I didn't know the Bonneville High Rider kit also had leaves for the raised suspension. That would be a cool series to collect if they weren't so expensive. They would be the one exception I would have to just having the box for the art.
