maltsr Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Looks great Al, looks like you have mastered Tamiya paints. Mine is hopefully on its way from the US, can't wait to start on it
Speedfreak Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Beautiful build Al, you nailed the 1:1 vibe of this car. What did you use for the chrome? That front bumper looks like real chrome! Edited December 31, 2013 by Speedfreak

Speedfreak Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 So that's the chrome the way it came out of the box?
Lovefordgalaxie Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 No. Same engine as 49 Merc Custom That's what I was afraid of I want to build one, but that means I'll have to get a AMT Merc to subtract the engine from. I got the Revell Merc as a present, and it was useless for me. The top came already chopped, Cadillac engine, etc. And I'm a factory stock kind of guy. Even when I build a Custom, I try to build something that could be converted back into a factory stock car in real life. I know it's kind of odd from me, but that's how my mind works. Even my 1:1 Galaxie has some customization like different wheel covers, and chrome dressing on the engine, but I can get her back to 100% dealer stock in about a day work.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks everyone. I was going to do this in Maroon, but when I saw this blue, I just knew this was it. Tamiya does some very cool colors that are spot on to this kind of cars. It's my favorite modeling paint for sure. The way your Merc got so perfect, looks like you got the hang of it too!! By the way, are you using any primer, or are you painting on bare plastic? I do just that with Tamiya non metallic paints.

I never use primer when using Tamiya of Testors Lacquers. I love using Tamiya's sprays, they always come out beautiful.
peter31a Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Beautiful Merc Woody! Glad to see how one of these kits looks built up. Can't wait to get my hands on one....or two....or three...

1930fordpickup Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Looks fantastic ! They may just have a hit with this kit.
Mad Viking Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Sweet looking woody. Great looking paint. Can't believe it's not clear coated or polished. Nice job.
peekay Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 You really nailed it Al, and in record time again! I like Tamiya sprays too but they never shine like that for me without a good deal of polishing.
charlie8575 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Caddy engine or not, I'm sold. Charlie Larkin
Porscheman Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Once again, Thank you for all the great compliments on my Mercury. I can't wait to see other members ideas for this wonderful kit.. Happy New Years. Al
