FIREMODELMAN Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Been away for a while, the board getting re-done messed me up .. Anyway, my newest build is with the REVELL '41 pick up. I began by making a scratchbuilt bdoy ouy of sheet styrene, and then added a little BONDO, ok alot of BONDO. Progress contnuies, but here's a few pics.. More in my fotki, Thanks for looking, dave. Ken Kitchen Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I like that a lot. One question, did you widen the front fenders? On the 1 1/2 ton and larger trucks Chevy used wider fenders. Here is a tow truck that I built. Unfortunately it's not the best photo to show the mods. I scratch built the tow bed and the booms on this one.
FIREMODELMAN Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Thanks Ken, and i also like the one you built.. No i did not widen the fenders, i've done this in the past with a couple other fire engine builds, but this time i said heck with it..this truck is not being made to represent anything that was 1:1, just a model. Here are few updated pics, been working on the front portion the last few days. Edited December 1, 2007 by FIREMODELMAN
Aaronw Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Ken, I'm wondering if you have specs for the larger 41-46 Chevy's, I found some for the later 47-54 and am currently building one from the AMT '50 Chevy truck. the larger than 1 ton were 2.3" inches wider (in the fenders) 3.4" longer (fenders & hood) and 1.5" taller than the 1 ton and smaller trucks, but I haven't been able to find similar info on the 41-46 series. Dave looks great as usual, but then I've already seen it.
SoCalCarCulture Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I'm sure you've seen the Yat Ming 1:24 '41 GMC for comparison...
Old Albion Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Dave, Its always a pleasure to see your latet project. This looks like your of to a good start. Keep us posted with pictures as you go. Good Luck with the rest of the build.
FIREMODELMAN Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Thanks for the nice comments. Dave i have seen that GMC, nice truck... Here are a few updated pics, got the body work done and a coat of paint on it last night.More to come..
James W Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 (edited) Your truck reminds me of an old truck my old department has, only it is not as swoopy. The body has the same basic shape and design but it is not molded to the cab. Was this an east coast thing or a large department design? I'm just curious. Beautiful work BTW. And fast. FIREMODELMAN Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 Thank you for the nice comments guy's. Here are a few new pics . I've been busy trying to finish up the wood bed, made some benches for lucky parade riders to sit on.. also I've been doing some lettering on it as well, Each letter is put on one at a time. Thanks for looking, dave.
Old Albion Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Dave, This is superb. The details like the ladders, extinguishers and the pressure gauges on the side are great and really finish the truck of well.
FIREMODELMAN Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 Thanks for the nice comments..I suppose we can call this one done. ready for the next 4th of july parade. I have more pics in my fotki, if anyone would like to see more. Thanks dave. ( missing door lettering will be added when the new decals get here. )
lonewolf Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Dave, Nothing short of spectacular as usual. I always admire your scratch building skills.
mikemodeler Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Dave, Another outstanding build! You make it look so easy to create these works of art. The details you include in your builds really makes them unique and realistic. Thanks for sharing and I am sure you have more builds coming. Mike Scheve
