3 cans of Model Master spray paint, sandpaper, & putty…...$36.

<sigh…..> I won't speak the things I'm thinking about as far as prices from my youth compared to today. I hear my Father laughing from the beyonds…...

Wow, how much was the paint/putty/and paper/

The one place that I know of that sells MM lacquer and putty is Hobby Lobby, and buying three cans of MML and putty comes $26 , $10 for sand paper ?

That's why I use anything but "model paint."

Rustoleum, Krylon, DupliColor... all of them cost way, waaaaaaaaay less per ounce than "model paint." Of course, there are times when you need a specific color that is only available from Testors or Tamiya, but every chance I get to get away from "model paint," I do.

I can understand why you would, building large scale subjects, I dont think a hobby size can of paint would go very far for larger scale , of course, I am just guessing as I do not build large scale.

$8 per can for paint X 3

2 packs of sandpaper assortment @ 3.00 ea. = $6

Tamiya putty = $6

Tax….

It was actually a little more than $36

Wow, I take it this was from a LHS, do you have a Hobby Lobby near you ?

I just looked that up on Great Planes' retailer's site, they're currently showing that gold as discontinued and at $21 a can?!?!?!?

That's way too much. I would find a different color...

I needed some clear….

I needed some satin clear….

I needed Hemi Orange…..

EIGHT dollars a can from my LHS (Willis Hobby on Long Island)

I didn't want to "experiment" with generic stuff on my project. I bought what I needed. <_<

Yes,definitely not a cheap hobby. Even trying to be cost effective and not over indulging it can add up.

Everything costs more in and around New York. I know,my daughter is in Manhattan at college.

I'm paying close to $7 for Tamiya and $6 for Testors/MM.

Probably could save $3-$4 ordering online but wait a week.

I understand your point and I was talking about the can being 21 dollars. I have paid 7 bucks a can for Tamiya and I can get Testors at hobby lobby with a 40 pecent off coupon. The hobby lobby in my area does not carry nothing but Tamiya primer...

At my local home center a 12 oz. can of Rustoleum Metallic Gold goes for $3.95.

Yeeooowch. SRP for Model Master sprays is $6.20. Tamiya Putty is $4.60 SRP. They're gouging.

I bought both of the "special" TS-83 Silver and TS-84 Gold Tamiya Sprays when they came out, I just had to see why they're so much. They're sort of like the high-polished Alclad shades but in a can, and not quite as reflective. You have to use a gloss undercoat like the high-polished Alclads. Are they worth $21 bucks a can? Nope.

Like a told a friend and co-worker today, for that kinda money, that gold paint better be like buying a pint of Goldschlager, there best be real gold flakes floating in it!

The strong cinnimon scent would be a nice touch for a spray paint too :D
