highway Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 This topic has to do with rearranging and/or changing the forum, not about model cars. HMMMM.....isn't the forum about model cars???? The truck guys convinced us to separate their Workbench and Under Glass areas into two broad categories... Big rigs, and all the rest. Seems to be working pretty well for the truck guys. I can see doing the same for the model cars area... Workbench and Under Glass for Street/Custom/Show Rods, and Workbench and Under Glass for Competition. That's how I wanted to do it for a long time, but Gregg wants a separate NASCAR and drag section. Yes it is, as a frequent visitor of the truck section, or as frequent as a customer or truckstop with free WIFI is for me anyway! There are a few others categories in the truck section that could be divided into big and little, but the divided workbench and under glass sections are good enough. So what if in the "Truck Stop" category someone asks a question on what would be a way to customize their slammed to the ground Toyota and just has one of those general titles like "question", I just grab my coffee cup and move to the next table where they are actually talking big rigs and not something I'd use as a wheel chock!!
highway Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Leave things alone. In fact, I wish trucks were in with the regular stuff, and race cars too. Pickups, maybe, but we big rigs like to own the road, so to speak.
highway Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Not going to happen. There are too many categories already, no way we're going to add even more. If anything, we'll put all competitiion models into one category, not separate categories for every different competition type. I really think that would probably be the best solution right there, Harry. It would give the non NASCAR and drag builders a place for their builds, but still is the way Gregg wants it with separate NASCAR and drag sections. The racing section of the forum could be NASCAR, Drag, and Other Competition.
W-409 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 A pickup truck is a truck. That's why it's called a pickup truck and not a pickup car. An El Camino or Ranchero is different... it's a car with a cargo box. It's based on a car, it sits on a car chassis, it has car mechanicals. Some people post them with the cars, some post them with the trucks. It can go either way, but a pickup truck belongs in the Trucks section. And if I see them posted with the cars, I'll keep on moving them. That's what we have a truck section for. Well, if El Caminos and Rancheros are allowed in Under Glass, why they are being moved to Trucks section all the time? Personally, I think that the separate Drag Racing and NASCAR sections are the best part of this forum. It might be because those subjects interest me the most, but also there are very talented builders and it's nice to find all of those threads in one place. I don't think it's a good idea to post everything in On The Workbench and Under Glass. Same thing with the Large Scale section. I think it should be its own category, too. Only thing I'd change would be that Trucks could be in their own section as they are now, but Pickups and Light Commercial Vehicles etc should be in On The Workbench and Under Glass. But that's just my opinion...

The pickups and light commercial vehicles have their own separate workbench and under glass categories in the truck section and they are separate from the big rig workbench and under glass. But if you've ever owned a Ranchero, or a Rampage, or an El Camino (the last of which I have owned, unfortunately) you know that the title and registration say "pickup". SUVs would go in light commercial, but what are they considered? Wagons. Same deal for passenger vans. Yet for some reason, putting a '96 Tahoe in the Light Commercial section is a no-brainer, but putting '66 Chevelle wagon in the light commercial section would raise a few eyebrows, even though they're both considered wagons. My rule of thumb is this- if the 1:1 vehicle would have 'pickup' on the title, it goes in the truck section, even if it's a "ute". If not, it goes in Under Glass. Wagons go in under glass. If it gets moved to another category after I post it, I'll let that be my little problem. Even though again I don't see why cars and trucks (not to mention resin and diecast models) really need to have separate sections in the first place...
chevyfever2009 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 But here in missouri you can licence a suv as a pickup or a car its your choice
W-409 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Niko, they are. The pickups and light commercial vehicles have their own separate workbench and under glass categories in the truck section and they are separate from the big rig workbench and under glass. Yep, I should have said it more clearly... So I meant that the Pickup and Light Commercial Model category should be put together with regular On The Workbench and Unger Glass section. But I don't think it's bad like this, either.
Rob Hall Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Why not do away with the NASCAR and Drag categories and just have one simple category called Motorsports? IMO, this forum is segregated to death as it is and needs to be downsized. Yes, it makes no sense as it is now to have separate NASCAR and Drag categories yet no other racing categories. It's very simplistic to only cover two racing subject categories. A single category for all motorsports subjects makes more sense. Edited January 22, 2014 by Rob Hall

This does seem to make sense, but , it's a great forum and I will continue to support it whatever the form.
vamach1 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Where would the 1965 World Champion fit in? I think we have some international modelers that think Ferrari's are not drag raced or compete in American based series like Nascar. http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/1694371 I would welcome a category of "other" racing. Tom Geiger Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I don't care since I never view by category. I hit the View My Content and View New Content buttons so all the categories are mixed for me. We constantly get emails from folks asking that we add categories to NNL East. We have kept few but broad categories due to the volume of models on display, and the fact that it's not a contest.
