Check your yellow pages . . . .

Yellow Pages? What are these Yellow Pages of which you speak? ;) I think I saw one in a museum once.

In the age of the internet do people really still use the "Yellow Pages"?

I have one. I looked up our local cable company and it did not have the number.

One got dropped off, on my porch, last month. It was as thick as 2 average sized paper back books.

Fine. I guess I'm showing my age.

Google it.

Better?

Let the loading begin!

On the advice of my wife I went to Target (don't use your card) this morning and bought some ConTact brand shelf paper. This stuff is great. It's pure white and peel and stick. It's very thin and very smooth and doesn't stick so hard that you can't get it laid down nice without any wrinkles or bubbles. It's 18" wide and since these shelves are 9" wide I just cut the roll in half before unwrapping it. Still have that second half a roll left over. I also saw some thin cork stuff that looks a little like 1/25 dirt and I'm thinking about maybe covering one shelf with that for some dirt track cars. :)

Anyway now, instead being cluttered with built up models, my workbench looks like this:

And I'm a happy boy!

I like how you have the paint bottles organized.

Thanks, I keep gloss colors on the lower level, flats above. I did an article on how I built the rack in that "other" magazine about 7 or 8 years ago.

Looks good, but I couldn't deal with open shelving. The dust would drive me crazy. All of my models are in glass-front cases.

I am with you on the dust Harry, I have two open shelves each model car is in an AMT stackable case and the rest in wall cases to keep the dust out...

When I first thought about putting a plexiglass door on the front of this shelf unit my main concern wasn't dust but keeping the models safe from our two yearling kittens who like to play with almost anything they can reach.

But I never thought that the real culprit would be our oldest cat who has now decided that the lower shelf is a perfect place to take a nap!

I remember your paint rack in the other mag, so you are the guy! I made a small attempt at building a copy. Mine didn't turn out so well, I had too many after thoughts how I could have done it better. I should have followed yours to the letter.

Your shelfs are looking good with the models on them, nice collection. My only thought about you putting doors on your unit was that you would have to open them every time you want to turn the light off and on. Now I'm thinking you would have to let the cat in and out also.

I keep looking back at that '40 Ford, is that the Skid Marks car that was in MCM a while back? I think that was what it was called. You are a talented guy, I like your stuff.

Thanks for the kind words, Ron. My wife expressed the same concern about access to that light switch as you did, however that's not the switch for the main room light so I don't think it will be all that inconvenient. Maybe I could put a small "kitty door" in the bottom? :D

The '40 you see on the shelf was featured in the December 2012 (#173) issue of MCM. The article was titled; "Flathead Fun".

Thanks again.
