Tony T Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 i just found this thread and got caught up...wow, nice build!! Love all the little details, makes it come alive! Nice work, Brad!
gasser59 Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Thanks Tony. Glad you found this thread and were able to get through it. I just returned from a full day at Desert Scale Classic and the fellas from Cactus Car Modelers really outdid themselves. Very classy event. I also met up with a grade as well as high school friend who I haven't seen in over 20 years. Reconnected with old friends and made some new ones as well. A great day indeed.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 So glad to get to see this in person today. Great work!
gasser59 Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Thanks Mark. It was great to finally meet up with you. Congrats on your awards. Very nicely done.
Danno Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Congratulations, Brad! You did quite well, yourself. Brad won Best in Class - 1st Place Diorama, and Best Interior Master Award at DESERT SCALE CLASSIC 10 for this creation. Well done, my friend. This exquisite little travel trailer diorama was as fun to examine in person as I imagined from the photos and its occasional in-progress appearances at club meetings. Edited April 13, 2014 by Danno
gasser59 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Thanks for the accolades Danno. Very much appreciated. I really enjoy building these out of the ordinary builds. Now I gotta get back to my Scout Truck that was on the Projects Table.
gasser59 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Thanks so much Greg. Also a big thank you for the resin parts. As you and I spoke, some of your Master Caster parts are on this build. I really appreciate the quick turnaround time on them.
John Teresi Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Brad………just an amazing build……..I am so happy for you and your wins……very well deserved……..I can`t believe you can make things that small from scratch "WOW"!!!!!………was great to see you and Julie and to meet little Sadie…….she is Beautiful……..alway`s have the best time hanging out with you
Art Laski Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Brad, I wish I had seen this sooner, but after seeing pics of this from the DSC, I went looking for it here. Great stuff, my friend. This type of build is in your wheelhouse, for sure! Awesome stuff... Art
gasser59 Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Thanks John and Art. I really appreciate your comments. Art - we really missed you at DSC.
gasser59 Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Thanks Danno. I really appreciate your feedback. It was a ton of fun to build and put together. Here's a few pictures from the show. As you can see. I put a firepit together with some little rocks from my driveway and a few twigs from a tree in the backyard, which a few of them got burnt on the ends. I even added a little tuft of cotton for smoke. Got the red decals applied along with a few extra scale water slide decals. Thanks for following along. Comments always welcome. Rob Hall Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Very cool..I like all the accessories in the diorama.
gasser59 Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Thanks so much Rob. Now that this build has expanded beyond just the camper, I started a new thread in the Dioramas section. That is where I'll be posting my progress on building the base.
Tom Geiger Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Brad, the thing I like about your models is that you always tell a story without going overboard. You are one of the rare guys in this hobby who know just when to stop and have everything in perfect position. Your circus truck interior was the inspiration for my Dodge van camper. Keep up the good fight!
gasser59 Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks so much Tom. I really appreciate your insight and thoughtfulness. I like to build 'busy not cluttered.'
gasser59 Posted November 29, 2015 Author Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) Just to let you guys know, this dio isn't finished yet. I've built a base, covered it with grass and made a few pine trees from a natural fiber furnace filter that I cut into shapes and stacked on a tapered dowel. Here's few pictures. The edges of the base need to be sanded smooth and painted along with a few more small camping related items added. Edited March 25, 2016 by gasser59
misterNNL Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 A real work of art! Also a very interesting build to follow as it progressed.I enjoy watching you solving the problems we all run into as we build(too much glue, paint splatter, and so forth).I have a problem with that parts eating monster that lurks on the floor of my model room just waiting for me to drop something then running off and stashing it heaven only knows where so that I have to make another one !Great build with a level of realism and detail that the rest of we mere humans can only hope to aspire to.Thanks for taking the extra time to take all of the in progress photos and post them with an explanation of exactly what you did and how it was done.
gasser59 Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 (edited) Thanks for your comments Tom, they're much appreciated. Since this thread, I've added a base frame out of cedar fence slats, also added a few minor items to the dio including a thermos on the table, a tarp and a cold beverage cooler. Thinking of a couple more small details as well for later. Here's a photo. Edited July 6, 2017 by gasser59
gasser59 Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Another. Thanks for following along. Not quite there yet.
gasser59 Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Thanks Stephen. It was a lot of fun and something different to try. I added a cardinal to one of the trees to tie in with the red of the trailer. I call him Larry. And one more shot at a local show.
misterNNL Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Adding the wooden frame around the perimeter was a great move. Some how it helps focus the viewer's eye toward the center of the display and brings all the details into better focus.Outstanding!Your builds always inspire me to do better work.
Randy D Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Hi Brad, I'm always blown away by your builds my friend. You tackle an amazing amount of different subjects and do an outstanding job on them all!!!!!! Very impressive skill set you have. Randy
