But... if built with some skill and no skulls, the cars can be interesting and fun. One of the things I like to do is search for interesting power-plants. Straight 8's, Flathead V12's, 7-cylinder radial tank engines... etc. Here is the ultimate Rat engine! The aircraft is a Hawker Typhoon from WW2. The model is the new 1/24th scale Airfix Typhoon. The engine is an "H" 24-cylinder sleeve valve Napier Sabre water cooled and supercharged engine.Google this for some info. Be way cool sitting in front of a 1939 Ford coupe fenderless body wouldn't it?
DonW Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) You could even use the cockpit assembly with the coupe shell over the top of it, drop the whole lot into a suitably strengthened rolling chassis... and also complete the 'plane as a kerbside air racer with a cut down very dark tinted Perspex canopy! Yes-the price is higher but you get more than what you pay for with them. This Typhoon will only sell for near $125 at street price. Pocher's new Lambo isn't this nice in accuracy or detail. I wish the model car manufacturers had this mentality-despite the carping here about prices. The engines in general look like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH compared to this-even in 1/12 scale.

If they're still marketing for a younger crowd.that isn't there anymore A quick look around this forum would show you that there just aren't that many youngsters building models -I'm sorry to say. Yes there's some,but not near like there used to be When I was a kid (late 50's -early 60's) ,Everyone built models. This has been discussed a lot I know,and it's the wrong thread for it. This generation's favorite cars (if they even have any) are not what's being manufactured today and they don't relate. Revell et al are only selling to the 40 to 70-age generations and ignore that we want the quality that the a/c and armor guys get.

True,but there are some who try make an effort. This Hobby Design McLaren engine is nice.

While not perfect (and this applies to ALL manufacturers), the quality and accuracy overall seems to be going up for the new stuff and the manufacturers are fixing what can be fixed in the reissues. And not all aircraft and armor kits, new or reissues, are wonderful, either (again, this applies to ALL manufacturers). Check out the reviews in Fine Scale Modeler to see what I mean. And, a lot of people in the age group that you specified build aircraft and armor. We in that age group would like to see that same quality to which you refer in all kits- cars, planes, tanks, ships, sci-fi, et al. We have seen our share of BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH back in the day. Back to the topic- Jairus, that's a lot of money to spend just to get an engine but I look forward to seeing what you can do with it. Go for it!
