Danno Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Congrats to you, too, Mike! Third Place in the highly competitive Small Scale Class was no 'small' feat!! Glad you got a chance to participate. Edited April 14, 2014 by Danno
blunc Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Here is a link to my Flickr set of DSC-10 photos. I regret that most of the Master award winners showed up on the tables after I had already finished getting photos, I really would have wanted some pics of the best in show to get ideas from. I had a great time and wish I hadn't been too exhausted for working nights to go hang out with you guys at the BBQ. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blunc/sets/72157643966359005/show/ Things I heard while at DSC10: "That is SICK!" "CAN I HAVE IT?" "Luv ya Brotha" Edited April 14, 2014 by blunc
cobraman Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Nice photo's . There sure were some beautiful models there.

gasser59 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Dave - I was looking forward to hooking up with you. I'm sure you were there most of the day as I was. How did we not meet up?
Bill J Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I sure enjoyed the day and it was a real pleasure meeting some new people and seeing the outstanding models. I would have liked to have made the BBQ and chatted some more. The California guys are some serious modelers and some super guys, it was a pleasure chatting and seeing their work. All the models were a sight to see! Dan, Bernie, Raoul, Hal, Lanny, Dale, Mike, Tom, Glenn and the whole Cactus Modelers club crew did a super job on the contest. It made me feel guilty that my enthusiasm going in was less than it should have been. We really have a great and talented group and I need to do more to be supportive. Hats off to all the venders too, great stuff for sale and I spent my entire allowance and came away with some good kits that I have been looking for and some prospects for a few more. I missed Scalefinishes not attending this year, he was committed to a IPMS show in Seattle. Hopefully he'll be back in '15. I had a great time and look forward to our next contest.
Mooneyzs Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) I wanted to thank the Cactus Modelers club as well as the Moonlight Modelers. Everyone did a spectacular job with the show. As always it was a great time to be had and a really good turn out. It was great to see old faces and meet new ones. I know I didn't get a chance to meet everyone. I know there will be more shows. The BBQ was great and a Big thanks to Hal for opening up his home to everyone as well as his show and tell with the Dragsters. Totally cool. I had a blast and can't wait for next years show already. I know I need to get moving on a few builds... Here is a link to all of the pics I took at the show: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Mooneyzs/library/Plastic%20Models/Model%20Shows/Desert%20Scale%20Classic%202014?sort=4&page=1 SNEAK PEAKS: Edited April 15, 2014 by Mooneyzs
charlie8575 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 WOW! Some great stuff. You and Tom need to come to some kind of agreement about not going the same weekend. I'd love to do both shows some year. Charlie Larkin
moonmodler Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 By golly, I'D like to do both shows next year. Sure would be fun to load up the Cactus Car Modeler bus and head for Jersey. Does anyone know what the date is for NNL East next year? I would like to avoid a schedule conflict with Desert Scale Classic. Thanks to everyone for the kind comments regarding the show. Cactus Car Modelers strives to put on a quality show and we will always try to make it better. Anyone wanting to send me their personal critiques, good or bad, can reach me at berniekankiewicz@gmail.com. Bernie

Davewilly Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Dave - I was looking forward to hooking up with you. I'm sure you were there most of the day as I was. How did we not meet up? I guess we just missed each other Brad...I was there about 11 ( bad traffic ordeal on Bell rd coming out of Surprise..took me an hour and 1/2 to get to the show) by the time I got my cars put in then took pictures and checked out all the other beautiful builds it was time to close the room for judging....and then time to hit the vendors for the close out deals! Then I help Tom Nue load up his stuff and it was award time....So I was there most of the day but I didnt get to visit like I wanted to with folks..... Nice builds you brought with you to the show by the way!
Danno Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Just in case you wondered what the Best of Show looked like, here's a picture of Rick Blassl's spectacular entry. [Photo borrowed from Fuelish Spectator (thanks, John!).] This magnificent '69 Camaro also took home Best of Class-1st Place Factory Stock and Best Engine. Look closely. It's stunning. It even has the fender braces and windshield washer nozzle pipes! Before you ask . . . Yes, it's 1/25th scale!
John Teresi Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Such a BEAUTIFUL model!!!!………very inspiring!!!!!
Tom Geiger Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 By golly, I'D like to do both shows next year. Sure would be fun to load up the Cactus Car Modeler bus and head for Jersey. Does anyone know what the date is for NNL East next year? I would like to avoid a schedule conflict with Desert Scale Classic. NNL East is usually the 3rd Saturday in April NNL East 28 - April 26, 2014 (1 week later due to Easter) NNL East 29 - April 18, 2015 NNL East 30 - April 16, 2016
Danno Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 DSC has usually been the 3rd Saturday in April, too. DSC 9 - April 20, 2013 DSC 10 - April 12, 2014 (1 week earlier due to Easter) DSC 11 - April . . . well, who knows? 2015 Actually, the 2nd Saturday worked out kinda well this year, now didn't it? You never know . . .
DrGlueblob Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 That display stand on the Camaro is really clever.. Is that homemade or store-bought?
gasser59 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 That is a store bought piece. I've seen them at the LHS on occassion.
Danno Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Brad's correct. I don't recall the brand, but I have a couple of them. They're sweet. Retail for about $15 - $20.
Tom Geiger Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Actually, the 2nd Saturday worked out kinda well this year, now didn't it? You never know . . . We are one week later this year due to Easter... probably why you went one week early? We generally have our dates set and our lease five years ahead. We just watch out for Easter and Passover. Before we moved the show we were in March, but our new hall has a basketball tournament then, so we moved the show to April. It gets us out of snow season, something you guys don't have to worry about. We never did get a direct hit, but over the years we had blizzards that shut down the state the Saturday before and the Saturday after our show!
AzTom Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I know I'm late for the party but I got busy doing next to nothing. I had a great time at the show and enjoyed the awesome builds. I'm going to get back to the bench and get some stuff done for next year. Here are my photos. http://public.fotki.com/aztom/toys--models/plastic-model-cars-kits/model-contests/desert-scale-classi-5/ Sneak Peak: This one was built by John Teresi .... Incredible. For all that were involved in putting this show together, Thank you.
cobraman Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks to all you fellows who posted photos. I really enjoyed seeing them. Looks like I missed one heck of a good time.
