Ramfins59 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 My wife came home from work tonight with a couple of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies that she bought from someone there. I pretty much like ALL of them. I opened a box of Tagalongs (Peanut Butter on a cookie, covered in chocolate). The price went up to $4.00 per box from $3.50. Now the cookies are smaller, and there are only 15 cookies in the box...!!! I know it's for a good cause, but come on...... Do the Girl Scouts have to pull the same moves on us that all the other manufacturers do?? Raise the price and give you less....!!! (Yeah, I know...the Girl Scouts don't actually make the cookies.) I may seriously rethink buying them in the future. Just sayin....

1930fordpickup Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 They are different prices this year. Just depends were you live. PS If you want to make a donation , just make it to the troupe selling the cookies. They only get 25 to 50 cents per box anyway.

I also understand that we live in a profit based, inflationary society. I get it. I'm not a naive person, It just surprised me that even the Girl Scout's cookies are going the "pay more for less" route.

Ridge Rider Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 This seems to be a more common practice. There are many brandname items I no longer buy because of this. I expect one or the other but when they happen at the same time-no more from me.
Muncie Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 no problem, as I've gotten older, the smaller package is probably healthier for me absolutley addicted to thin mints with no self control - if the package is open, it means they are gone... Besides the fundraiser part - the kids are learinng how to do sales and handle money.

Traditionally each regional Girl Scout council set the prices for cookies sold in that council and offer the option for customers to sponsor boxes of cookies to be sent to U.S. servicemen and women. This is the same for the Boy Scouts Trails End popcorn.

Mom got suckered into buying a bunch of boxes a couple of weeks ago from one of the ladies at church. The boxes and cookies were tiny. Product shrink, unfortunately, is a reality now given the falling value of the dollar and the resultant increase of cost (it now takes more dollars to do less work.) Between that and some questionable things some of the executives of GSA have done, I don't know if I'd personally buy any cookies myself, and continue to support DeMolay and Rainbow. Charlie Larkin

Yea, I just looked it up. Apparently GS cookies are made by two different bakers and each call it a different thing. Or maybe people thought they were made from real Samoans? One of the ice cream companies sells Girl Scout Samoa Cookie ice cream. To die for! Samoas are also sold as Keebler "Coconut Dreams" at your local grocery store. Apparently it depends on the specific state... ""The mom decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being,” Dana Allen, director of marketing and communications for Girl Scouts of Northern California, told Mashable. "We're not telling people where they can and can't go if it's a legitimate business."
