FASTBACK340 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I can't get into details as yet, but a job situation presented itself to me last week that I'm going to act on. No more cut-throat tactics and hustle-hustle get it done immediately so you can get the next one in mentality that prevails in the flat-rate world. I interviewed this afternoon, talked tasks , money, and Monday I get my start date. Yes, I'll still be pulling engines and working on cars, but in a different environment. No more dealership rat-race gerbil wheel…... This is sooooooooo friggen cool, I'm busting to share. Wait until you see this. I have to wait until Monday to talk about it. This is a gear-head dream come true!
scummy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hey , thats great news . I can tell how excited you are i hope it all works out well mate .
Austin T Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This is sooooooooo friggen cool, I'm busting to share. Wait until you see this. I have to wait until Monday to talk about it. This is a gear-head dream come true! Being the guy that "Tests" Jay Leno's bikes and cars to make sure they run good?
High octane Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Congrats John, and I hope that it works out for you. Everyone needs a break now and then, maybe this is yours?
slusher Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Congrats, its a big plus to be happy at what you do....
FASTBACK340 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Being the guy that "Tests" Jay Leno's bikes and cars to make sure they run good? Close….. Think just before the test ride. Yeah, I'll be building in 1:1 the way I do in scale….. a dream come true. I've talked about this facility in the past and once everything is set, I'll post the TV commercial they air locally.
disabled modeler Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 John that is great news!... Nothing like getting paid to do what you love and to work for a easy going atmosphere place too.
Bowtienutz Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Coming from someone who is disabled and can't work anymore I wish you the very best of luck in getting your dream job.
1930fordpickup Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Congrats John. I have a good idea what you are going to be doing.
Ramfins59 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hey John, I've got my fingers and toes and eyes crossed for you...!!! Good luck wishes are heaped upon you.
Tom Geiger Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 here's to you John! It's great to have a new job, I'm glad to have mine!
charlie8575 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Sounds like an interesting job, John. We're all waiting for details and wish you well. Charlie Larkin
FASTBACK340 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 After 22 yrs. of working with Infiniti for Nissan I'm calling it quits….. No more hustle-hustle…. no more cut-throat tactics…. no more, dare I admit it, ripping off customers. March 17th. I start what will hopefully be the final chapter of my life career working on cars. I started with Porsche when I was 19, then moved up to luxury imports. Now I'm hoping to ride this out to retirement. Actually, this WILL be like early retirement!
Tom Geiger Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Oh cool! You're gonna work at Gas Monkey Garage East!
Ramfins59 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 That is GREAT news John. I'm very happy for you. I hope you will be very happy at your new "Dream Job." Congratulations buddy.
FASTBACK340 Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Oh cool! You're gonna work at Gas Monkey Garage East! OUCH!!! If you recall, last summer Amy & I went to a car show where they unveiled a GTO that was restored for a fallen soldier. His name was Major Jeffery Calero and he was a member of the Long Island GTO club. This is the shop that donated the restoration of his car for the family. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/08/27/deer-park-car-shop-honors-fallen-queens-soldier-by-restoring-his-classic/ While I appreciate the humor in the fact that I'm working in an environment that has been exploited for ratings, I'd feel uncomfortable not supporting the fact the owner is a class act. And yes, I thought about the reality show comparison (I can't even watch Graveyard Carz. And it's ALL Mopars!) this is a professional operation. No burn-out's in the parking lot, no shop-drama, it's a family and I'm happy to join them. @ss Monkey Garage is fun to watch though….
FASTBACK340 Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 I feel overwhelmed by the opportunity to work with integrity again. The dealership grind started to suck the life out of my soul…..
charlie8575 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 John, that looks like a great place to work, and I hope it lives up to the hopes you have for it. Best wishes to you on this very exciting turn of events. Charlie Larkin
mikemodeler Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Congrats John, it isn't as hard to go to work if it is doing something we enjoy as opposed to something that drains us, and it sounds like you have found it! Enjoy the new job and share some pictures of the 1:1 builds when you get a chance!
