Bluemiles22 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Being that I have two projects going on right now, I decided to add another lol. 66 chevelle from lindberg, I decided this one is going to have opening doors and trunk, this is the first time I'm doing this so hopefully it turns out ok. Got as far as taking the doors and trunk out, and trying to get the hinges to work now. More to come soon.
ewaskew Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Looks like you got some clean cuts to work with so that's a good start. God Bless
Bluemiles22 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Cutting the panels out wasn't all that bad, having trouble getting the hinges to work though, anyone know a good way of doin them?
Bluemiles22 Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Ok I was able to get a little more done with this project. I took a hood from the 69 nova kit and cut out the cowl and I'm gonna attempt to graft it on the the chevelle hood. Hopefully it blends in well. Also got one of the doors hinged and the trunk. This build is going to be done as a Malibu street machine. Waiting on some aftermarket goodies in the mail ?. Thanks for looking
Bluemiles22 Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Here's where I'm at so far with the hood. It was a pretty good fit, some more sanding and a little filler should do the trick.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Got some primer on to see if there were any more trouble spots, it looks pretty good, some very faint lines but those will be taken care of.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Got some color on this one tonight. It's candy blue from auto air. I decided I would give the water based paints a try being that I'm spraying indoors in a small apartment. Hopefully the trial run goes as planned lol. Thanks for looking.
slusher Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Great progress, real nice work on the hood and beautiful shade of blue...
Modlbldr Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I love your work on this. I like this Lindberg kit a lot. Right now I'm working on a 66 El Camino with a 68 Corvette hood bulge molded in. Keep up the great work and I'll be following this one. Later-
Bluemiles22 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Thank you for the kid words guys. After some debating I decided to purple pond this one, I just wasn't happy with the way the paint came out, I think I shot it too thick through the airbrush. On a brighter note, I did get this in the mail today for this build Gonna start cleaning and prepping this for paint.
Tom Geiger Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Rich- Since you sent it to the pond... I noticed in your last photo (of the car in blue) you hadn't created the inner door jambs, inner door or the trunk inner lip. You need to do all that prior to paint.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Thanks tom, the trunk is ok without the lip but the door jambs and the inner door are something that I overlooked before I painted. I think I may have bitten off a little more than I could chew on this one lol.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 12, 2014 Author Posted March 12, 2014 Ok got a little bit of work done on the engine. This is the 572 from vcg resin. Great product, very little clean up needed, and it comes with some aluminum pulleys, oil filter, and starter. The breathers are from model car garage. Hopefully I can get a little further on it tody.
Teddy J. Tannehill Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 That is a nice 66 you have there...I have this kit on my waiting to be built shelf...I have only built one other lindberg car. It was the 409 SS Impala...I liked it pretty well...I think the body to frame, and fan to fan guard fit problems I had...I brought on myself...I now do a lot more test fitting and on the bench adjusting before glue and paint are put on...This seems to help. I like your work...That is what is neat about this hobby...Each Builder seems to have their own style...Yours seems pretty clean..I like the opening trunk and doors idea. I may try some more advanced stuff has my skill improves...My style is kind'a the "Rugged look"....Another thing I noticed about the Linberg kit is that the decals are a little "Tricky" to work with. They don't stick as well compared to AMT ones...I do like the look of the linberg water slides.....and if you wait long enough the do set.
Tom Geiger Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Thanks tom, the trunk is ok without the lip but the door jambs and the inner door are something that I overlooked before I painted. I think I may have bitten off a little more than I could chew on this one lol. It's actually not all that difficult to do. Take out a kit that already has opening doors, like an AMT '57 Ford, and just copy what you see there with plastic sheet on your model. You'll want to create the jamb below and at the back of the door. Then you'll need to add the proper depth to the door itself. Just cut the door panel out of your interior tub and basically just box it with plastic strips to get the depth. The good part is that with plastic sheet, you can try over and over to get it right. If you don't have any, just go to the hobby shop and buy a pack of Evergreen plastic sheet for $5 or so. That pack will last you a long time.
Chris White Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 beautiful engine. I am a big fan of Manny at VCG Resins
Bluemiles22 Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Thanks for the kind words guys. Teddy thank you, as far as the decals go I have a set of decals from Keith Marks for a 66 Malibu so I'm not going to bother with the kit decals. Tom, I'm going to give the door jambs and trunk lip one more try. I'm debating just getting another kit cuz I wasn't all that happy with the gaps the cut out panels left, the seams just don't look right to me. I liked the idea of functional doors but I think it's just a little out of the scope of my skills to do and get it to look right. Right now I'm going to concentrate on the engine an then move back to getting the body squared away.
