traditional Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I've just completed this Olds custom last night after (believe it or not) over 110 hours of effort. The starting material was a cheap, damaged (and missing a few parts) diecast stock '55 Olds, bought at a toy show a while ago. I'd also bought, on Ebay, a set of American style wire wheels for just such a project, and the Olds purchase was just the impetus to get this model rolling. There are lots of body modifications and hand-made parts throughout, and paint is basecoat/clearcoat deep purple over a pearl base. The period typical 'Carson' style top was hand (and Dremmel) hogged out of a block of 'REN', a resin modelling material used in product design studios. The windshield has been chopped a scale 2", the Packard style tail-lights are handmade, and the exhaust system is done in polished aluminum tubing. The materials used on this model include styrene, diecast, tin, aluminum, Ren, Bondo, epoxy, cyanoacrylate, and ,of course, the various paints.

DumpyDan Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 That is so sweet, you have done a beautiful job....................BRAVO!
Harry P. Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 So many '50s "customs" I've seen are completely garish and goofy looking, with too may styling cliches thrown in, a loud paint scheme, etc. This, on the other hand, is not only a very tasteful and subtle customization, but I think it looks way better than the stock styling. I especially like the taillight styling. This is a grand slam, Cliff!
665@213 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 That Olds is bada$$! Nice to see other folks building killer rides from diecast. Great job!!
the goon Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Harry is right on the money . great job +1. Perfect. Mark
Peter Lombardo Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Wow, top notch.............so this just begs the question, where is the plastic kit of this and the Buick???????????????????? You did a first rate job on this. It is just beyond me why we don't have 55, 56 and 57 Olds, Buicks and Pontiac's. Wake up model makers. Oh, and did I mention that you did a great job on the build? You did!
