Ah, the quandary... it does look better without the chrome, but you are building a replica and the real car has the strip! If you entered this otherwise perfect model in a Replica Stock class, they'd mark you down for the missing chrome strip.

Personally I don't think it interferes much on the left side. It's a matter of looking at the right side to see how that looks. I'd probably include it for accuracy's sake.

Tom makes good points. My preference would be to leave it off, but the original had it . . .

I'm right there with you, Tom, following your indecisive lead! :P

Actually, I was agreeing with you . . . in that, building a replica removes one's options for creativity or creative license.

I´d add the chrome trim aswell for the sake of accuracy. Imagine you will someday sell this piece of art to a Joplin-fetichist. He won´t pay the full $5000 for this ultra-unique model when there is a lack of accuracy due to a missing chrome trim.

Somehow this got by me. Just spent some time catching up with all 11 pages. Oh my ! What a paint job. That is crazy wild and you are pulling it off in great style. Fantastic paint work.

:rolleyes:Hey briz, I would do the chrome, for the sake of authenticity you have to really listen to the reason you created this work of art, then decide how to proceed.my 2 cents, beautiful wok! Shaun.s

Tom you have a great point about the replica and accuracy. I'm little torn, the car will be not a perfect replica anyway for a few factors. The paint job, it is as close as I can reproduce it in scale, for be perfect, I should have measure every inches of the paint job on the real car for have a perfect replica. Same for the shade of paint I used, they looks close, but they will be not exactly the same. Also the tires, the kit came with tire without brand. I was able to find thru a friend 5 Michelin X tires from another Fujimi kit, they are periodically correct but who know what the 1/1 car had in origin, it could have Continental or Dunlop. Probably they were Continental (Conti radial tires) because of the missing of other optional on the car.

I know that the chrome strip is more noticeable than the tires or paint.

Maybe I should make the 3 piece chrome trim like you said for accuracy. :) Thanks!

Here the right side.

I can always make it, leave it without and if there is a buyer that offer all that money, (I think it will be easy win the lottery... :D) attach the chrome trim. :D Thank you Kevin!

That was actually not a joke. There are collectors out there who don´t care about money because they have more than plenty of it. Seriously ;)

Just stumbled upon this thread... Have to say... This is the most insane psychedelic paint job I've EVER seen! Like nearly everyone else, it blows me away! ???? You sir are an Artist, not a model car builder! Warhol & Picasso would be proud! ??

As for your quandary about the chrome strip... I'd have to agree that since it's a replica you'd have to go with the strip. It's a pity it's there on the 1:1 & they should've left it off but since they didn't... ? I don't think having exact/replica tyres are as big a deal as the chrome strip. Tyres are changed over the years ( 1:1 ) & it's much more realistic & forgivable ( contest-wise ) if the tyres weren't exactly the same, period correct tyres would be fine ??

Keep up the amazing work Briz' ??

Cheers Cliff

Amazingly faithful rendering of the original artwork!

As for the trim strip, if it were me, I'd cut a thin strip of masking tape and lay it in place to see where it breaks through the art, compared with photos of the original, if it's right on or close enough, I'd add the trim for accuracy's sake. Too far off, then no strip for art's sake.

That looks absolutely stunning! Can't wait to see it completed B)

A few years ago some photo etched sets were created for these 356 kits - the first was purely for the cylinder barrels but the second was a general detailing set for the rest of the car with badging scripts, air filter meshes, grille panels and steering wheel centres for different versions. However it also includes the chrome side trims, if that is of any help for your project?

I'd put the chrome trim on. This is really looking fantastic Brizio. I applaud your work!

Ok thank you Marshall, I will put the chrome.

Thank you John! It should be close enough, because I draw the chrome strip to help me out to sketch the paint job. Good idea on use the tape. Thanks!

Thank you Paul! I knew about those sets, but I couldn't find to buy them. The one about the engine work only on the engine that come with the kit that is good until 1955, after the engine is different, more like a VW. Next week I will make the side chrome strips, and hopeful I can finish it. :)
