just wondering. do you stock pile or do you buy as you go. i normally will buy as the subject arises.

I tend to do a littte of both. If I know I'll need it for a future project, I might pick it up if I feel like it. That way when I do get around to the project I have the paint.

I usually buy it with my credit card so that I can accumulate "airline miles." I have a lot of paint on hand, and sometimes I either order or buy a certain color for a current or upcoming build. I just placed and order with MCW, and I need to order some paint from Black Gold for a car that I'm presently workin' on.

I used to buy paint as i needed it. When the LHS closed i bought about 60 cans @ 50% off. Then Hobby Lobby had a massive sell off of paint and i ended up with about another 45-50 cans @2.22 a can. I still have to buy flat and semi gloss black every month but my clear coat and colors are well stocked.....for a couple more years anyway.

I stock multiples of the colors I use the most, whether bottle or spray can. If I need something for a project then I buy as a go but I still buy more that what is needed.

I stocked up on Duplicolor spray cans when Advance Auto Parts had a 2 for 1 Sale last year, plus I have a bunch of Tamiya & Black Gold paint cans. I'm pretty much set for spray paints. I replace jar paints as I need them from my LHS.

I have a lot of old enamels. Some of the little Testors bottles and Humbrol tins date back to the 70's and are still good. michaels just had a 33 cent/bottle sale on craft acrylics and I bought a bunch. If I find it cheap, I stock up, otherwise I just buy as I need it.

STOCKPILE, Man!!!!! The local dollar store always seems to have something I can use, and at a dollar a can, I can't be too picky....Especially when it's Duplicolor, or Krylon......That's a lot of paint for just a dollar.....Most of my builds are based on what I have on hand.....As most of you know, I ran into a PILE of orange engine paint for a dollar a can....Must have bought a dozen cans.....Lasted for about a year, too.....Sadly, I'm out... ..I need some more....I miss that color....

I mainly use automotive paints. I'll buy what I need for a project, and if there's a sale, I'll go and buy a few cans of primer gray and maybe some primary colors like black, flat black, white and reds. I got stocked up good about 4 years ago when Duplicolor discontinued the tall can "Truck Colors". I found them at Ollies for a buck a can and literally bought every can they had that I could use. I think it was like 35 cans. I only left behind blah colors that I thought I'd never use. I'm still working off that hoard.

I've recently started to use a few Tamiya colors so I'll buy those as needed at the hobby shop. If I see some cool color I don't have an idea for, I"ll buy it anyway. There are a few Testors colors I'll use.. I like Dullcote and flat black, I buy those at Michaels with my 40% off coupon.

Regularly-used, high-volume stuff- keep it on hand.

If it looks like something I might need, I'll grab a bottle/can.

Project paint as necessary, and then I have more paint for something else down the road.

random impulse buys for me, lol. hobby lobby had a clearance on a bunch of testors cans awhile ago, so I loaded up. and every time I go there I get a can or two just to have colors/clear/primer in stock.
