Harry P. Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 ...of Pink Floyd, and especially David Gilmour. Here's half of Pink Floyd (Gilmour and the late Richard Wright) sounding fantastic...
Austin T Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Huge Floyd fan. I would love to have been around in their prime and been to a few of their shows. I love Animals,Dark Side, and many other masterpiece albums that they have created. It's just good music to lay down too and ponder all sorts of things while listening to the rhythmic chords streaming from their guitars.
Dawson Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 If your a big fan of David Gilmour-This is your lucky day !! David Gilmour is a member here on MCM a.k.a. Psychographic.
JollySipper Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 You have to love how different the two guitar solos are in "Comfortably Numb", before and after the Doc administers his "medicine"....
Lunajammer Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 May 24, 1988 I was doing morning rock radio and had the opportunity to see the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour for FREE, just by hosting a rock bus to the Metrodome. I'd just done one for David Lee Roth and it wore me out, so I passed on Floyd. Biggest regret ever. Friends, cousins, strangers went and no one said it was just okay. Every single one said it was the most amazing concert they'd ever been to. I remember it also being the highest rated concert of the year by either Rolling Stone or Billboard.
vettecote Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 In 1988, saw them 3 times in 6 months. Two of the times were one night after the other. Awesome show! It lightly rained the second time, even that added to the show and made it really cool!...Joe
BirdWatcher Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I'm not huge on strats, but his tone has always been impressive to me.
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 One of my favorite songs Harry... My favorite Pink Floyd song. David Gilmour's guitar work on the solos is pretty amazing. You have to love how different the two guitar solos are in "Comfortably Numb", before and after the Doc administers his "medicine".... I never thought of it that way!
tubbs Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 not a huge Floyd fan at all, but love Gilmore. saw him in a small venue here in Cleveland back in the day, great show, total opposite of Floyd, he just came out and played pretty much, kind of like SRV does, or did, God rest his soul. in my opinion, his solo album is fantastic and rates right up there with any Floyd album. he plays electric, acoustic and steel guitars on it. very diverse player. i my mind serves me right, he plays piano and harmonica on it also. i highly recommend it.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Floyd's probably the top of my list far as rock goes, but their work is so far beyond "rock" in scope and complexity that it's really a separate genre.
Ramfins59 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 David Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb has to be one of THE BEST guitar solo's ever IMHO.
tubbs Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 How can you not like this song? too methodical.... to spacey.... I like it more raw. Lesley West and mountain couldn't hold a candle to Gilmore and Pink Floyd... but you just gotta love the great fatsby. I never cared for the "spacey" music, Pink Floyd, Yes. Procal Harum, but, I am a huge Robin Trower fan also. go figure and no, I do not want to turn this thread in a different direction..... who doesn't have their vinyl copy of dark side of the moon" still?
1930fordpickup Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Yes Al that Dark Side Of The Moon LP was on the charts for years. but i never bought it. I think I have a used copy on CD. LOL

LOL hehe, it's weird, I was not a Floyd fan back in the day, but something compelled me to get that album. you just had to have it. (same with physical graffiti from Zepplin)....
maltsr Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 hehe, it's weird, I was not a Floyd fan back in the day, but something compelled me to get that album. you just had to have it. (same with physical graffiti from Zepplin).... As a teen in the UK during the early 70's I used to go round to my friends to listen to albums. Travelling on the bus, I thought it 'cool' to have desirable albums in my arms with which to impress other passengers . Those that come to mind include Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zep IV, Tubular Bells, Fragile, all with vinyl sleeves that were part of the whole experience. Don't get that nowadays with downloads and MP3 files
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums you have to own if you were alive in the 20th century. It's like "Sgt. Pepper" or "Exile on Main Street" or "Pet Sounds"... beyond iconic. A must-have.
maltsr Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums you have to own if you were alive in the 20th century. It's like "Sgt. Pepper was the first ever album I bought, after seeing 'Yellow Submarine' at the cinema - I bought it for 'Lucy in the sky with Diamonds' which didn't appear on the movie soundtrack (IIRC).
Harry P. Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 Sgt. Pepper was the first ever album I bought... And a fine choice for first album!
Tom Geiger Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) Floyd...Summer of 1976, Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ! What a concert! And since we're sharing-- first album I ever bought was "Let It Be". I still have it. First cassette I ever bought was "Hair" both around 1970. Edited May 8, 2014 by Tom Geiger
Harry P. Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 First album I ever bought was Led Zeppelin II. Still have it, in pristine condition. I was always kind of a nut in regards to keeping my albums in good shape... always used one of those grooming/cleaning brushes with the fluid before every time I played one. I was fanatical about that. I still own every single 45 and album I ever bought. And yes, I still have an old-fashioned turntable to play them on (among all of the new stuff, of course, like a DVD player, etc.). In fact, I still have my original Laser Disk player! How many of you can say that? And I still have my college days high-end stereo system, including my Crown amp and pre-amp, Sanyo tuner, and the now-collectible Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers.
maltsr Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I'm with you regarding the cleaning brushes Harry, used to use one all the time. When I emigrated to NZ 10 years ago, I left my hi fi and all my albums in the UK (I travelled light). Now all my vinyl is in the hands of my three sons (in their twenties) and my musical tastes have largely been passed on to the next generation.
