afx Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Harry, do you know who Les Claypool is? He's the kooky, somewhat eccentric brains behind Primus. Him and some of his buds started a band called The Frog Brigade. Anyways, on the album "Live Frogs, Set 2" they cover the entire Floyd album Animals. And it's a live recording, not studio! Animals is my favorite Floyd album. Here is Pigs on the Wing - Not bad, not bad at all!
Harry P. Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 The G'n'R cover sounds good! But with Slash on guitar it sounds a whole lot like the original.
Harry P. Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Pearl Jam is one of my all-time favorite bands, and "Black" is one of my all-time favorite PJ songs! That cover is cool... a very nice take on the original. I like it!
Craig Irwin Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Here's some friends of mine covering Dylan, Dane (singing and playing guitar) has a "day job", drumming in John Mellencamps band, and Jon E. Gee On bass is Mellencamps bass player too.
Craig Irwin Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) Some more friends covering the Allman Brothers, I went to high school with the bass player and I have been known to set in with these guys. Edited May 16, 2014 by Craig Irwin
Bluemiles22 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Pearl Jam is one of my all-time favorite bands, and "Black" is one of my all-time favorite PJ songs! That cover is cool... a very nice take on the original. I like it! First concert I ever went to was PJ at Madison square garden, I was probably 16 or 17. It was AWESOME! Seeing Eddie Vedder climbing up to the rafters on a microphone cable is something I'll never forget.

afx Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 "Album" is the correct term. An "Album" is a collection of songs that can be available on various formats (LP, cassette, CD, digital file, etc.)
afx Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) Kevin Glibert (Giraffe) performing Genesis' Back in NYC. I chose to post the live version it rocks a lot harder but the studio version is excellent as well. If you don't know of Kevin Gilbert you should check out his career here: Edited May 17, 2014 by afx
madhorseman Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) OK, well maybe not "covering"..but have you heard lawyers for the band Spirit, and guitarist Randy California are claiming Led Zepplin stole the music from their song "Taurus" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJUdnTKlP1E Edited May 21, 2014 by madhorseman
Modelbuilder Mark Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Here's some friends of mine covering Dylan, Dane (singing and playing guitar) has a "day job", drumming in John Mellencamps band, and Jon E. Gee On bass is Mellencamps bass player too. Dane was always a really cool guy. He still lived in Pendleton back when I was still in Indiana, but I am not sure if still does or not. I have one of his CDs.
Harry P. Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 OK, well maybe not "covering"..but have you heard lawyers for the band Spirit, and guitarist Randy California are claiming Led Zepplin stole the music from their song "Taurus" A lot of people have claimed that Zep ripped off their work. And in many cases it's absolutely obvious. And there have been quite a few lawsuits filed and "settled" by Zep paying up... also, in some cases the song credits listed on Zep albums have been changed to give credit where credit is due. The "Taurus" case is interesting... it does sound a lot like the opening of "Stairway to Heaven," and I've read that The Yardbirds (of which Jimmy Page was a member) toured with Spirit... draw your own conclusions...
Craig Irwin Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Dane was always a really cool guy. He still lived in Pendleton back when I was still in Indiana, but I am not sure if still does or not. I have one of his CDs. He has 4 or 5 CD's out now, but unless he's moved recently he still lives here in Pendleton.
Ridge Rider Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) A great singer Dio and a great guitarist Malmsteen doing Aerosmith's Dream On. Again not necessarily better but a pretty cool cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0xM65cVh0E Edited May 24, 2014 by Ridge Rider
Custom Mike Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) I'm sorry guys. Those are all good examples, but there is only ONE greatest cover of all time. And this is it. No foolin'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTxuv0w8LnY One of my all-time favorite covers, they took that song from the Beatles! Motley Crue did the same thing with Helter Skelter... http://youtu.be/nBMMCClIgTc Edited May 24, 2014 by Custom Mike
Custom Mike Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Another killer Motley Crue cover, the song starts after the bad word in the intro... http://youtu.be/kLEoVDpQ3mQ?t=10s Motley Crue also covered the Sex Pistol's "Anarchy In The UK", but you can't get the naughty words out of it...you'll have to look that one up on your own....it's worth it! And I can't figure out why I can only post a link and not the player...what am I doing wrong here? Edited May 24, 2014 by Custom Mike
Custom Mike Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) This one's from way out in left field, but I'm sure you've all heard this song at some point in your lives....The Demon does Jiminy Cricket...and Gene says he never did drugs... http://youtu.be/xYZ0rkVaPyY Edited May 24, 2014 by Custom Mike
Custom Mike Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) A Mott The Hoople cover from a early '90's "supergroup" that never took off... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D12tJ8tfSs Edited May 24, 2014 by Custom Mike
