ratdoggy Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks everybody! Lee, The side windows are very easy. Just pieces of clear sheet plastic cut to size, trimmed with foil & glued in place. Mike, The "bubble top" roofline was the standard in '61 on all of the GM cars & was replaced in '62 buy the more formal "convertible look" tops in '62 on all except the '62 Belair hard top. There may have been some cheaper Pontiac, Buick or Olds hard tops that carried over the bubble top roof into '62 as well. Not sure about that. Steve Now that I was thinking of it all the '62 drag cars had the bubbletop. Like the Dave Strickler car
ChevyCoupe41 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 '62 X-frame Chevys are one of my all time favourites and this one looks perfect to my eye. BMF work and paint job looks stunning and those wheels fits perfectly to it. Very Nice Job!
drifterdon Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 That is a gorgeous build and I love the color. If you don't mind me asking, whose paint did you use and what was the color of blue?
sjordan2 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Your work is superb, and each one is better than the last. Love the windows rolled down.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Don. Like I said, I'm not 100% possitive because I built this kit many years ago, but I believe it was MCW '69 Chevrolet "Azure Turquoise". The now defunct hobby shop that I used to go to years ago carried some MCW paints in a spray can & I'm pretty sure that's the paint I used. You can get the airbrush version of that color from MCW now, I have some. You may be able to still get it from him in a rattle can also. Steve
krazyglu Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Wow I love everything about this model, color is perfect and I also like the more modern radial's on there. You have built a fine kit no matter how old it is.
ERIK88 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Beautiful love the tire lettering ! Makes it look even better. I got like 4 of these kits which I'm building drag lowrider and stock !
Mackvision Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Some nice work indeed! and one of my favorite GM factory stock colors......................................Mark
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 The settings on my camera are not set real well for out door shots. I seem to be getting more "blue" than I should be. I'll have to fiddle with it a bit. But anyway, here's an indoor shot that is probably a more accurate representation of the true color. And again, thanks every one, for the motivating comments! Steve
Dominik Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Very nice! Beautiful color and a nice touch with the passenger window.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Man I love this! Wheels and tires are perfect for it...
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks Guys! I guess you could say I'm a Cragar SS freak! Had them on my first car & they've been my go-to chrome wheel ever since. I don't remember what kit the BF Goodrich radials came from, but I love the detail on them, so I hoard them if I find a couple. Nice big white letters, That was the tire & wheel combo to have when I was a pup! Steve
Ron Hamilton Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Builds like this one is why AMT is re- releasing this kit. Beautiful!!!!!
Chris White Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 wow, that is so nice, T/A's and craggers takes it over the top for me
Harry P. Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 wow, that is so nice, T/A's and craggers takes it over the top for me or Cragars...
Speedfreak Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Great looking build Steve! What a beautiful car, you capture that early 60's vibe so well.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Very nice!! This car proves that Cragars are practically stock equipment for a nice '60s car. And also proves that 15" is the correct size for a wheel.
carrucha Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Nice build. It has held up well after all this time. I have never seen a '62 Bel Air with Cragar wheels and it works really well with this model.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Thanks guys! As far as I'm concerned, The Cragar SS wheels look good on pretty much everything. For me it's usually stock wheels, or Cragars! There is nothing else. Steve
