Mopar - D Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 John your detail looks spot on looking forward to seeing more.
Mike Kucaba Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Interesting build. I've never seen anyone reference a pinion snubber on a Mopar build yet, I guess traction bars have more "eyeball". Everything else looks great, especially those tires and wheels! Nice Start!!
slusher Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Very impressive detail John. Really like what you doing on this build..
james460 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Having been a teenager in the sixties I've seen about as many Roadrunners as anyone and that going to be a really nice one. As for the rake I've seen them subtle and I seen them jack so high with big tires sticking out way past the fenders. All that missing is a set of Gabreial highjackers. Yours is just right.
johnbuzzed Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Thanks to all of you. I'll post more as I go. Mike, I went with the pinion snubber because it was/is the hot setup for Mopars for so many years. There is one on my '67 Charger (in "under glass"); that one is scratchbuilt, too. James460, I never really cared for the really jacked-up look and that's what I think of when I think "Hijackers"- so, I chose Koni yellow (I think that's correct) instead. I have a boatload of reference material on my phone and I want to keep this as realistic as possible; I don't want the finished model to look like I just threw a bunch of aftermarket detail stuff at it. I'm just about at the point where "good enough" isn't. Heck, this is the third Hemi I've cut up to use with the Torqueflite- I goofed on the first two. The headers are soaking in Purple Power right now because the flat white is too bright, and I just realized that I goofed on the rear brake lines... but the project goes on!!!
mikemopar70 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Just the right stance, and with these wheels and tires... Wow!!
wmobie Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Gabriel Highjackers {air shocks used for tire clearance} +pinion snubber = torn out shock mounts. If you want to be realistic, to1:1 experiences!
Mike Kucaba Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 How is the molding on the body? I have one that is very poor where it counts the most, right on the right side A pillar. So far has been a paint to scribe.
johnbuzzed Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Mike, the kit I used is the "Millennium" edition, from 1999-2000?. The body molding is a little weak in some areas, particularly around the window trim. I'm going to be scribing that for BMF and that's not something that I'm looking forward to. Also, the right rocker panel suffered from a problem in molding that might be called a "short shot"- it was incomplete and wavy. I fixed that with a strip of Evergreen styrene.

I never liked that look either. I hear you on the "I don't want the finished model to look like I just threw a bunch of aftermarket detail stuff at it" I think you are doing a bang up job. keep pushing.
johnbuzzed Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Yes, it has been a while, but I have been S-L-O-W-L-Y working on this. Comments and critiques are welcome. http:// http:// http:// http://
johnbuzzed Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 And, two more. Should I add small, round speakers to the top of the dash? ">http:// ">http://http://s889.photobucket.com/user/jbuzz710/media/1968%20Road%20Runner/CAM00287-1.jpg.html'> This is the first time that I used embossing powder instead of flock. I believe I am officially a convert.
Mopar - D Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 John you time spent on the details of the interior are just awesome. Looks like you could be sitting it. Glad to see your still working this road runner.
tbill Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 sweet! that interior is a work of art. as mentioned, wheels/tires look dy-no-mite!
chadrob30 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Love it. The Van Halen and AC/DC cassettes are a great touch!
johnbuzzed Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the compliments. I did add two small, round speakers to the dashboard top and there is a key, on a keyring, in the ignition switch. I'll put up pix when I take more. I can now put the interior aside and get to the body. Then, the chassis, and the engine comes last- still working out some of those details in my head. Edited January 28, 2015 by johnbuzzed
mustang1989 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 That interior detail is killer! I haven't used embossing powder or flock yet but I can tell you that I like the look of the powder alot. I could look at stuff like this for days ! (well hold on..................I do that already!) Great progress and awesome detail work John!
johnbuzzed Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Thanks, Joe. I have always used flock in the past, but this first use of embossing powder has made me a convert, You should give it a try; it's easy.
Tom Geiger Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Nice work John! I believe the little mopar aluminum tag Jerry gave you was made by Noel Hyman. He was in my club back in the early 1990s. His family owned a jewelry store and he made the license tags, valve cover decorations and air cleaners in different colors. He sold them at shows in our region, that's why I think it's one of his. Noel would stop by my house, and my daughter was about 9 and was working on this Samurai. Yellow with the red highlights which mimicked my Geo Tracker which was new back then. The next time he came over he presented her with these plates and she was delighted!
johnbuzzed Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Tom, I decided to use the Pentastar plate on an original MPC Duster pro-stock kit that I got from Jerry many years ago in a swap. That will be built up into a super gas or bracket-type drag car; something that would have run against Jerry's "Vanilla Shake" Camaro. I found another, aftermarket plate to use on the 'runner. More pictures will follow as it progresses.
johnbuzzed Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 http:// Grille, taillights, bumpers and tailpipes. Most of the grille has been opened; those areas that weren't were given a wash of blue or black, to match what would be seen thru the grille at those areas.
carcrazy19 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Its been a long time I've posted since the fire although I have been looking at all the awsome builds but I had to comment on this build... I like the way you are building this RR. Everything is turning out great and I like the street machine look. I can't wait to see it complete. Watching everyone's builds especially ones like this make me look forward to building again.
