Mopar - D Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) This is a JoHan 70 road runner I got off eBay it's been started and was missing bumpers that I picked up from Modelhaus. I'm going with Lemon Twist and MOPAR black and white interior. I will keep the Hemi that came in the kit and will keep it factory stock. This is a special build for me because the only surviving kit I have from my childhood is this kit that I had originally hand painted it Testors yellow with a black interior I was also into using metal axels back then and drilled a hole through the engine on it. About 7 years ago I sprayed it lime green but it will be a then and now comparison when I finish this one. Here's what I'm starting with now. Edited June 29, 2014 by Mopar - D
disabled modeler Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Very nice kit Dan and story.... I have a build up to restore finding those body side stripes is not going to be fun planing on a factory stock version here too with mine.
High octane Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 That should be a cool build Dan, as I just love dem Mopars!
Mopar - D Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Thanks for the support I've started sanding some glue blobs that were on the body and going over the panel lines.
my80malibu Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I just received a resin copy of one of these from SMH resin very nice casting I plan on the same Lemon Twist color with a white interior my original car was a base model 383 4 speed.
gtx6970 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 No fair,, that looks mint compared to the builtup I have. I bought a builder several years ago to replicate my old car. someday I'll get to it My old car was black - black int 440 six barrel 4 spd bench seat
Mopar - D Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Well after some checking I have decided that the interior and chassis needed more detail than what JoHan had back in the 70's so I picked up the new rereleased AMT 68 road runner to use as a donor for the chassis, Hemi and tires. From my parts box I'm looking at adding the center consol still open for comments on to use it or not. I cut out the are rests from my last donor 68 Dart and placed them in also have a coat of primer on the body.
Mopar - D Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Started on the engine and detailing the front grill and wheels.
vintagedragcrazy Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 i have been working on a johan 69 roadrunner and used the chassis from the revell hemi dart and it fit like it was for the kit i even cut out the inner fenders from the dart and was amazed how it all fell together. vince
Mopar - D Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Vince I used the Dart chassis on my last build and also cut the inner fenders out to. The 68 road runner's inner fenders are detached and fit perfect in the 70. I'm leaning toward not using the center consol and go with the pistol grip shifter
sak Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Looks badass but I would carve that master cylinder out of the firewall. It looks like half of it is embedded inside. With your skill, you should easily be able to scratchbuild one.
gtx6970 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 i have been working on a johan 69 roadrunner and used the chassis from the revell hemi dart and it fit like it was for the kit i even cut out the inner fenders from the dart and was amazed how it all fell together. vince Problem with that is the Dart has a spare tire well and the A body only style gas tank, that looks nothing like the same area as a 1968-70 B body
Mopar - D Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Jeff that's the old firewall that I have now replaced with the 68 firewall. Getting closer to being ready to spray some yellow got the BMF on the emblems Thanks for your comments
charlie8575 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Very nice, Dan. I always liked the 1970 B-bodies. I wouldn't be one bit upset if AMT added the body/interior/trim parts to use with the 1968-69 chassis components. Charlie Larkin
Mopar - D Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Charley thanks for the comment and yea the 68 chassis is fitting in with very little grinding and no cutting. Thanks too Carl.
