Yes you all read that right!!! I'm going to build my vintage MPC 1914 Stutz Bearcat model!! I thought I'd build something different and for myself and so I pulled this kit out and cut the bag open to release that vintage smell! ;)

I've been looking online for good photos to work with on how I'm going to build it?

This one looks pretty good to do?

Or this one that was in Green Acres, 1965-1971

Looks like I'll stripping a lot of chrome and redoing it in brass!!! Anyone have any idea what would be the best to use for doing the brass?

For the brass, after stripping the chrome, apply white primer, followed by airbrushing Testors brass on the parts.

I believe Krylon Short-Cuts also has a brass-colored paint in a spray can. To be safe, put a coat of Glosscote over it, as it's a somewhat sensitive paint color to touch.

Looking forward to seeing more on this build, I built one last year, for the brass, I stripped off the chrome and used alclad brass

Thanks for the replies guys and for the link to the one Harry built. I knew MPC had the color wrong for the motor. They say it should be red with gold cylinder heads?

I think I have the ride height problem fixed or at least a lot better then it was...

I got some of the motor painted and have cleaned up some parts getting them ready for paint, hopefully tomorrow I can get some more done on it.

I thought doing the red & black was going to make for an easy paint job and after spending some time looking at the photo I see I will have to do a lot of masking and painting on the fenders and some of it looks like it's not going to be fun!!

In the photo below I have to paint them red, black and some spots to look like wood......

I might use the stand to display Stutz?

The Collings Foundation in Stow, Ma. has a French Gray Stutz with red seats and black pinstriping.

For the pinstriping, masking shouldn't be as bad as it looks.

I'd use 1/4-1/2" blue tape, and then, with a fresh blade, cut out around the raised area where the pinstripes are. It might be best to brush-paint to control bleed-under, and touch up as needed.

For the gray, plain old Testors gloss gray enamel will get you in the ball-park. The seats are sort of dark red, I'd use red oxide primer, followed by a coat of Humbrol Wine or Testors Dark Red with a little bit of black added to make it more of a maroon. Overcoat either with clear satin or semi-gloss.

Cool project. I'l have to keep an eye on this build.

That said, I have been looking ( casually ) for one of these in 1.25th scale for another future project
