mangodart Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hi guys, here I am with a very unusual built for me : an European car !!!! I'm mandated by a client to built 3 models which replicate his own cars. So I've start with this Mercedes, originaly a Revell kit, which is an old mold dated 1960 with the body in five different parts !!!! I've changed the wheels, taken from an AMT 300 SL, front bumper also, and works on the grill also to be more accurate. I've add the convertible boot and the little third seat. Hope you'll enjoy Some more pics :
Phildaupho Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I have not seen a 190SL built since I put one together very poorly as a kid. You have done a great job to turn a sow's ear in velvet purse.
Biggie Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 300 SL little brother It is still a pure classic. I like what you did with old Revell mold - nicely build. Emblems on trunk are hand written ? What will be the other two cars ?
mangodart Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Thanks, emblems on trunk are both Bare metal and hand corrected.... The other cars I'll have to build will be a Countach and a Porsche 356 Convertible, both Fujimi kits
Harry P. Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Nice model of a nice car! Now open up the hood and show us the good stuff...
ChrisBcritter Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Nice to see this one built so well! I have one unbuilt in my stash. Only thing with yours is the 300SL wheels are a bit large for the car; the 190SL had 13" wheels and rather small narrow tires: (This is Rosemarie Nitribitt and her '56 190SL; Google her name and you'll find a very unusual story...) Did you have any major problems with parts fit on this kit? Mine is missing the grille, one tire half and all the hubcaps but the previous owner threw in parts from the Hubley 300SL which I'll have to make fit.
robertw Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I have that kit, unbuilt, and it is a dog. (Not surprising considering its age). You've done a very credible job of turning that ancient mold into an attractive model.

Thanks for all these nice comments, I couldn't use the kit wheels, there really were "toy like". Part fits is finally quite nice, but there is a lot of work to have this body nice as it is in 4/5 parts. Anyway if you need the kit wheels and tires, mp me
mangodart Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Sweet & SHINY :) . You have palm trees in France? TO answer your question, yes we do have palm trees here, especially where I live in the south east
