StevenGuthmiller Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) I promised pics of my '60 Merc convertible from my "Man I Hate Black" WIP. Well, here you go. Thanks for encouraging me through this one guys. I think it turned out ok. Steve Edited April 25, 2018 by StevenGuthmiller
hemi Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 For someone who hates black you sure make it look good.
GMCMAN52 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 great looking Merc and in Black and Red what's not to like
John Goschke Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Steve, that came out great! The black paint looks super smooth and shiny and I love what you did with the interior. The little details like the shift lever and antenna look just right. Superb work detail painting the grill and textured panel in the rear. Proof that these old annual kits, when carefully built, can hold their own against any new "full detail" kit!
slusher Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Steve came out way better then ok, gorgeous model...wow..
Ron Hamilton Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Steve, You hit that one out of the park!!!!!! That one brings back memories, as Mom's first car was a Black/White Top, Red Interior 1960 Mercury Monterey 4-door Sedan. That thing was such a beast. It was a 6-year old when she got it, as it was her first car. She beat on it, but it got her where she had to go. It had little oil and fluid leaks, and swilled gas like a drunk at a bar, but it would go.
Ramfins59 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Steven, that looks absolutely gorgeous. Great job.
Maindrian Pace Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 That's an elegant looking car, and one that seems to be overlooked in the market. -MJS
Brett Barrow Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 "I think it turned out OK"? Yeah, I'll say it turned out OK. Better than OK!
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Thanks Everybody! I will admit, I think the color combo is a nice one. I just had more issues with painting this one than I have in a long time. But I did learn some things along the way & if I had it to do over again, it would probably go a little smoother. Oh wait, I do have it to do over again. I still have a '60 Merc hardtop to build! No black next time though. Maybe a nice blue or green. Steve
peekay Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Beautifully done, Steve - one of my favourites from the era. Your foil and paint detailing is second to none.
Harry P. Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 That's a real beauty! You really have a knack with these big 50s-60s boats!
