DynoMight Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Hello, after my Nomad project came to a end, I decided to start a Corvette Grand Sport (the 60s one, of course) I've spent the last 2 weeks opening this up and just staring at all these magnificent parts, making me want to put down the Nomad and work on this, but I finished the Nomad before my wanting to start this kit took over... This won't be superdetail, it's going to be fairly box-stock (yawn, I know) and I just want to do a good job on this. Surprisingly, the molding on this is fairly good, not a lot of flashing, good details, not bad... The chrome, as usual on a Revell kit, is not so good, but at least the mistake is somewhere you won't see; the back of the wheel I painted the spokes (I guess) flat black so they weren't so... chrome. Here's the engine, it's not done, the transmission still has to be painted, and the intake manifold, header, rocker covers, and the belt and fan still have to be put on.. Thanks for looking, advice, comments and recommendations are welcome! -Glenn Edited June 30, 2014 by DynoMight
DynoMight Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 That's a cool kit. I have to agree, the fitment is amazing, no issues, tires could use a little help in the rubber department, but besides that, not much is a problem in this kit... I recommend it, it's worth it..
Duntov Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 OK ---I like this a lot ---- Zora would have loved it too!!! Regards Bill (Duntov)
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Except it's not really a Revell kit. It's an Accurate Miniatures kit, reboxed after AM went belly-up. I bought something like 12 of them to build and for parts, just because it's such a GREAT kit.

W-409 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Too good to be Revell? My friend had the original issue of this kit and I remember it wasn't as good quality as Revell's new kits are. There were some fit issues during the final assembly (if I remember correctly) and some of the parts were not so detailed as parts in new Revell kits. In my opinion the only manufacturer that makes better kits than Revell is Moebius Models.
66belair Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I was wondering if that was the same kit, that was highly regarded when it came out. Nice going so far.

I guess it was a Accurate Miniatures...
Deathgoblin Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I've got one of these. I can't wait to get started on it. Main problem I've seen so far is the tires on my kit have a concave tread patch, like they didn't have enough material pumped into them. I'm ordering a new set from Carrera slots. Hopefully they get shipped one of these years.

W-409 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Tamiya, Round 2/AMT makes some good kits, Trumpeter This one is really, really, really, good. I guess it was a Accurate Miniatures... I'll have to admit that I don't have much experience on Tamiya kits. I've built three of them and the amount of fit issues is really small. The parts snap together easily. But many of those kits don't have engines and they have simplified chassis and interior as well. I think that's what makes the difference so that I think Revell kits are better, as they usually have the parts to build a detailed model. The AMT kits Round Two is working on are nice. But many kits are old and part count is really small... I think overall Revell is better. Trumpeter kits are really nice, I forgot about that. I think they are just as good as Revells, I have one Falcon and one Ranchero kit and I'd like to buy the '63 Nova really soon. Oh well, enough Off Topic... Let's get back to building this cool car. I can't wait to see what you'll end up with!
Danno Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Nice project. But, . . . Trumpeter? Only the American LaFrance . . . when it comes to their automotive subjects.

They have really good detail, haven't had any experience with their cars, but I have built 1 or 2 of their planes and they are amazing.. and thanks Edited June 17, 2014 by DynoMight

DynoMight Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 First, let's start off with the motor. Oh and here is the engine stand I built last night, it is pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Here is the chassis. Not much done on it, but so far the chassis is painted, the front A-Arms are painted fl. aluminum, the rear axle assembly is together, and that is pretty much it so far... Here is the interior. So far the interior floor pan is painted flat black, the interior walls are painted fl. aluminum. Steering wheel has a flat black rim, and a flat black steering column. I also made shoulder harnesses out of a material I found in my desk. And finally, the paint..... White is Testors Flat White, red is Model Master's Guards Red. For a clear I used Future Floor Polish by Johnson & Johnson. All coats were sprayed at around 35-40 psi. Here's the masking I did, I used circles cut out of blue Painter's Tape for the white circles. The paint came out okay, there was some bleeding but I fixed that up.. There are little specs in the hood on the clear, so I'm going to try to sand them out without messing up the paint... (fingers crossed) So far, so good... Famous last words I think I'll have this one done soon, because I have no school and nothing to do, so I spend my time in the basement working on my model hah.. Thanks for looking, advice, questions and comments are welcome.. -Glenn
DynoMight Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Hello again, been a while since I updated this but I've gotten a lot done since then. Interior is done Rear Chassis is done and wheels are mounted Here's the knockoff on the wheels Headlight covers, air ducts and glass are installed. The front suspension is done and wheels are mounted, along with the engine. Pretty soon everything will be together, hopefully I'll have this one done soon. Thanks for looking, advice, questions and comments welcome -Glenn
