Any correction of the fender flares?

I'd have to dig for the original (e.g. , the 2-in-1 from earlier this year) and compare the two . Frankly , the fender flares don't bother me on this version as it's a race car any-how . Sorry to disappoint you , Lee ( :) ) . Perhaps I'll have to find the stock version tomorrow and compare the two ...

I'm a Sox & Martin fan and I loved building the Jo-Han Sox & Martin 71 Barracuda and I cant wait to get this one.

I have several of the Jo-Han 71 Barracuda's, a couple of Jo-Han S & M Superbird's, and a couple of Revell S & M 67 GTX's so this would fit well in my collection, my plan is to build as many Sox & Martin cars as I can from kits available.
The small kit flaws with "the fender flares" I can see beyond, they are not that hard to file down and correct so it looks better...it's easier to remove material that shouldn't be there than to add something that's not there...after all, we are model builders aren't we. ;)

Billy Gooche did the Grotheer cars, the Cuda and Road Runner years ago, I have them both, he did a nice job on them

Am I the only one who thinks the Revell supplied rear tires are a bit too big compared to the Johan ones?

Isn't the stance a bit higher on the finished kit than your as-proposed stance ? I won't dispute that the slicks' outer-diametre is obviously larger on the Revell tyres ; however , I believe that the rear of the car sits-up higher than in the photos you've (thoughtfully) presented .

I got my kits Sat and looked it over. NOT a complaint as I understand decal limitations and cost factors.....but should the 'Plymouth' and S&M be in silver leaf or metallic??? I do not know my vintage P/S well enough.

I do want to build this soon. I like the looks of the kit and living in NC for many years this was kinda the home team!

silver or gold.

Tires were most spcificly Firestone 500's. Firestone even made special front tires with the name Ronnie Sox in the sidewall. They did this fo a few other pro stock drivers.

According to my references the Plymouth and Sox & Martin scripts should be a silver circular swirl finnish with black outline and the Ronnie Sox and Mechanic Jake King and some other scripts should be gold swirl on the 70 Cuda, .

Slixx still has a couple of their Sox & Martin decal sheets in stock, the one for the early 70's Cuda is not entirely correct as far as I know but better than the Revell decals, Slixx says that the 70 Cuda had gold lettering, I don't say they don't exist but I don't have any pictures with all gold lettering for the 70, that's more correct for the 1972 Cuda with number Pro 23 or Pro 4, the 70 Cuda had number Pro 200 or Pro 705, the 71 Cuda had number Pro 4 or Pro 44, the numbers are different depending on driver as Ronnie Sox didn't drive all the time, (Herb McCandless amongst others did some driving for S & M)...and the sanctioning bodys could have had different numbering.

Doesn't appear to be that much difference between them. I'd go with the Johan since they're lettered, but the kit slicks look OK to me. I did mention the Firestone Drag 500 lettering to Fireball Modelworks, looks like they might add them to their product line.

The real deal is engine-turned silver leaf. I'd love to see a sheet done up like VRM's Kurtis Midget decals, with the bright leaf effects. Maybe someone could cook up a sheet to cover all the leafing on all the S&M cars? I'd gladly pay $20 (the price of VRM's midget sheets) for that, even though the really reflective chrome-like leaf isn't quite right for the 1:1, it still looks really cool on a model. Revell's attempt is admirable, but as noted earlier, they have the "Plymouth" standing straight up instead of italicized.

Thanks guys for the info on lettering.......I have an ALPS so I will draw up some and print in metallic and get closer anyway....

The car also ran Good Years and I am pretty sure I have a pic of the car with M&H tires on it as well, so I would not just stick to the Firestone tires if you have Good Years available.

John, I am just holding the body against the tires, chassis is not there yet...

Yes , I am aware of that , Cruz :) .

Believe me , I'm not calling you out on your comparison , and I apologise if it seems that way . I absolutely love your work , your craftsmanship :) .

All the pics I have of the 70 Cuda the tires are

A - inside the body

B - tucked ever so slightly inside the upper wheel lip.

So,,, IMO, the tires from the Johan kit are slightly more accurate

On the 1971 Cuda it seems to be more common to find it with the tires outside the body and the wheel lip above the top of the tire

It's funny that this thread started out saying the slicks were too small, now we're saying they're too big?!?! Gotta love this place sometimes....

Here's my mock up pic from a few pages back flipped to make it closer to the pic above. The slicks are pretty close to the leaf springs so if you want them in more you'll need to narrow the rear.

(I see mirrors and marker lights on that car - wonder if it's just a clone or a show car?)

Another view,,,, just not 100% sure when this picture was taken

S+M-1970.jpg

Just looking at the picture and noticing the huge video camera the guy is using, I would say late 80's or early 90's

No need to apologize my friend, the idea here is to listen and read to acquire knowledge and I thank you for your input.
