tbill Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 well, I was staring at my stash of kits wondering what to build next, when these two boxes caught my eye, going to be a day cab, color is yet to be determined, but trailer will closely resemble box art. stay tuned....
Mopar - D Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Tom that Road Boss day cab will look right at home with the gravel trailer. I would go with dark red or green. Will be looking for your progress.
slusher Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Should be a great build and combination with the gravel trailer...
BigBad Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Ha! I had the same idea with a Transtar 4300! This is going to be nice... By the way, fit the hood first and then the cab... Just a suggestion.
tbill Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 Ha! I had the same idea with a Transtar 4300! This is going to be nice... By the way, fit the hood first and then the cab... Just a suggestion. on the few AMT kits I have done so far, I have been installing the hood first, then glue the cab onto the frame to match it up. thanks for the reminder though
tbill Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 so, as it's still pretty much in the box, any tips on this kit? I know the frame/motor is pretty well the same as all the other kits, but what do I need to look out for body-wise? it looks like there are body parts that get glued on at the end [per instructions], can I do all this first and still get the interior tub in? also looks like the cowl end of the hood is an odd shape compared to the cab cowl, does it all flow together at the end of assembly? just curious, as at this point, it looks sorta funky, or is it just me?
Old Buckaroo Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Tom , I dont know of any of the quirks associated with this kit but I think you should convert the engine to a 250 and add the 5+4 if it does not come with it. A gravel hauler needs those extra low gears !
Superpeterbilt Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) If I can make a suggestion, cutting the hood down in length a little can make the truck look and build out a lot better. The hood can be a hard fit out of the box. Heres one that I was working on. Edited June 24, 2014 by Superpeterbilt
bigmerc2003 Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Have to agree with fitting the hood then setting up the cab to match. I ended up having to shim the back edge of the cab mounts to tilt the cab forward so the hood gaps looked good
Tesla Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I really like your choices Tom...looking forward to this project
tbill Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 thanks guys for the tips. usually I paint the body parts first, then start the motor/chassis. I think on this one I will do the chassis first so I can fit the body/hood and figure out what I am going to do from there [i.e. shorten the hood etc.] should have something glued together in the next few days, lol.
disabled modeler Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I have always liked the White Road Boss truck and the mercury sleepers....sounds like a cool project.
Madd Trucker Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Tom the hood is right for this rig yes it looks weird but is correct but will be a good combo
Jim B Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Sweet combination, Terry! Tom, you can get the 92" & 108" BBC hoods from Gary Wallace (GW Trucks) in Fulton as well. I have them both, and they're quite nice.

I just like having a little fun with my builds. I build it as it could really exist, but may not. Edited June 25, 2014 by Superpeterbilt

Superpeterbilt Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I dont fully understand the translation, but Ill take it that you like the truck.
kilrathy10 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 This looks like a good idea from the start....I hope you get it together, soon....For some reason, I haven't purchased this kit, yet.....They've got free shipping at http://www.plastic-models.com for orders over $25, right now....Thinking about it....
tbill Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 lol, sadly, I have not been to 'the bench' in a few days, work has been hot and very busy so I haven't had the energy to even glue plastic together this week I am however on vacation next week, so some building will get done!
