wrecker388 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) Hey guys! I'm starting a new project for my Grandpa for his 85th birthday this August. It will be building his 1974 Chevy C-10 Pickup. I will be using the Revell 1978 GMC kit for the project. The suspension used will be from a Monogram NASCAR kit (Pap's truck was 2 wheel drive, not 4).The engine/transmission were from Monogram's 37 Ford street rod(his truck was an automatic). The wheels are from AMT's 76 Gremlin, as they are the closest wheels I could find(I know of the Monogram Step side with rally wheels, but they are 6 lug, not 5) The grill has already been started and will (hopefully) resemble his as closely as possible. My deadline will be his birthday, August 23rd. Well, here are pics of my progress so far. Edited August 23, 2014 by wrecker388
twopaws Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Great reason to build a model. Good luck, am sure he will appreciate it.
mikemodeler Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I think those wheels are available in resin, check with Casey. Nice progress and I am sure your Grandpa will love it!
hjracing Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Nice start, and truly a "labor of love" style build, nothing can be more important that this kind of inpiration! i'LL KEEP AN EYE ON THIS ONE!
gwolf Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Great idea, Riley. I always wanted to build my grandad's '57 Chevy for him, but didn't. Let's see some more progress!
Dan Rosenello Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Nice project. I've been gathering parts to build my own old Chevy. I paid $100 for a '76 Chevy long bed fleetside. Six cylinder, four speed, and not a single straight panel anywhere. When an old lady demolished it outside my apartment, there where shards of bondo scattered a block away. I still miss it 19 years later..... Edited July 9, 2014 by Dan Rosenello
wrecker388 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 I'll post some pics tomorrow. Suspension is nearly finished, found mesh for the grill, got the frame modified to be 2wd, and some other stuff i'm surely forgetting. BTW, does anyone know of a kit with a separate bow tie emblem? I need it for the grill.
Ray J Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Revell 64 Chevy Truck Model has the bowtie with the 10 under it, that can be trimmed off. I have a set that i can mail to you. Ray J

Ray J Thanks for the offer Ray, but if the emblems are the same as on the Revell 65, they are a good bit too small. I'll post some pics of my progress later. May be more than I said last night.
Davewilly Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Sounds like its got all the right parts lined up I will want to see it as it comes along!
wrecker388 Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Parts in primer! Also, went to the local junk yard looking for window parts for our 90 Astro, and found what remained of the real one. It helped being able to see the interior again instead of going off of memory.
FullPowerGarage Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Hate to nice Chevy's in the bushes make's me cry
wrecker388 Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Hate to nice Chevy's in the bushes make's me cry Well, that truck didn't have a frame left when parked about 10 years ago. Had it been fixable it would have been my older brother's first vehicle.
Elliot949 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Do you have the running boards?... If not I can help you out with them...
wrecker388 Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Do you have the running boards?... If not I can help you out with them... Yeah, I actually built a set, but thanks for the offer though. I may end up missing the deadline, I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled today and the bodywork (cab's back wall and visor mainly) is not cooperating. My dad will be off work until next Tuesday, so he can help me. I also go back to school next Wednesday, which bites, but Pap's birthday is Saturday so with any luck I'll be able to get it finished by then. Also, any suggestions on a stocker looking steering wheel? The one from Revell's 69 Yenko Camaro looks pretty close. Edited August 12, 2014 by wrecker388
charlie8575 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Sometimes, "close" is the best you can do. And as long as you do the best you can do, nobody will fault you. Charlie Larkin
BenDover78 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 That ole pickup still has quite a few salvageable parts on her. Sad to see it rustin away. I need to build a replica of my 82 K10 sometime. Truck's lookin good
