Thatswhatshesaid Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 It's amazing how many people think that the modeling world begins and ends with the people on this board. Believe it or not there are others who build. If something gets released that isn't geared to 'serious modelers' it is dismissed as useless junk. So what if there already is a model of this kit? How many requests are there for an updated tool of a kit that already exists? There are young modelers out there. There is a market for it. They don't put these kits out there to raise funds for new tools for the 'serious modelers'.
blubaja Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 What kids today know what The Dukes of Hazzard is?
Matt T. Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Kids with parents my age. There was a movie just a few years back with Johnny Knoxville & Stifler too. The shows run in syndication, as does the movie. Then there's YouTube. It's a cool car that jumps and speeds around. Ya know, timeless appeal.
Brett Barrow Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) I sold 3 over the past weekend, I don't think any of them were older than mid-20's. Beginning modelers aren't necessarily kids, one guy who bought one just came into the shop with his buddy who was in buying some supplies, but he was not a modeler. He bought it just to give modeling a try. Who knows, maybe he'll be back, maybe he'll end up with a stash of hundreds of kits, maybe he'll end up on here whining about how come there's no 1987 Mercury Topaz... Bob Ellis Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The model looks pretty good. I can understand why they made a new tool for the snap kit. It looks like it can be assembled easily by anybody. I think this one looks better than the tired MPC tool. 2 questions; what is the hole on the trunk lid? What is the rectangulat opening below the radio on the dash. My guess would be where the CB radio and the antenna goes? I might buy one of these after seeing the photos posted here.

johnbuzzed Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 What kids today know what The Dukes of Hazzard is? Those who watch TV and see the Autotrader commercials, and/or those who have seen the 2004(?) movie with Jessica Simpson, the orange Charger(s) and those two guys.
Brett Barrow Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 My 5-year-old niece and my 3-year-old nephew both make the "Dixie" horn sound when jumping their Hot Wheels. True story.

You are right there Bob, there's also 2 small holes in the front bumper for mounting the push bar too. I did find nounting the front valance a bit fiddlie, but then again, my first thouht was to open the holes slightly with an Xacto knife then glue that in place. I didn't want to start breaking parts lff the tree yet either and since I was in the kitchen and all of my tools were up in my bedroom, I left that alone.
blubaja Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 What kids today DON'T know? I know of the show, just never seen it. I'm more a Knight Rider fan. Maybe because I'm just a Yankee:/ The car/flag doesn't at all offend me. Just completely no interest:/ Glad these are selling well tho. Maybe R2 will see fit to make more new tools. When was AMT's last Completely New tool even?

Joe Handley Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Those who watch TV and see the Autotrader commercials, and/or those who have seen the 2004(?) movie with Jessica Simpson, the orange Charger(s) and those two guys. I think that's it, it's people in my age group that watched this as children, teens, and young adults, and now that many are now parents, they're probably watching the show with their kids and well, as was said, a big, loud, orange car flying through the air........what kid isn't going to love that, especially if they already watch stuff like Monster Jam?!
Joe Handley Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 That's a hood point. I haven't seen any new tools of theirs from what I've been looking at, just re-releases. Their newest tooling should be the C6 Vettes, then the late model Camaro and Challenger, not the newest, but newer than the typical PL/AMT/MPC reissues that may have been recent pre Racing Chumps tools or kits from when AMT and MPC competed against each other as stand alone companies.......when Revell and Monogram were also stand alone companies..............
blubaja Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Those promo derived kits were outsourced:/ I don't remember anything new under AMT since round2 took the helm.
Brett Barrow Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) Round2 did the 66 Batmobile, but under the Polar Lights brand and that was during the days when Round2 was just licensing the brand names and leasing the tools, so I don't know who was really behind that one, RC2 or Round2 (I'm going to bet on Round2, RC2 was the worst!) I don't really count the DoAllSer-sourced promos either. Last all-new AMT kit was probably the 05 Chrysler 300 or 05 Cadillac Escalade. They're the last I can think of. Nope - just remembered (I had filed most of these away in the dark recesses of my brain, never to be thought of again), NASCAR Car of Tomorrow. Please Round2, do not let these be the last all-new AMT kits ever made... Edited September 12, 2014 by Brett Barrow
Joe Handley Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Actually Brett, it's labeled as a MPC kit.
disabled modeler Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I like it but wish they would leave the builder to add the holes in the body/bumper if wanted...still it looks interesting I might have to get one.
mikemopar70 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Wow! This is cool, i have to buy it!!!!
johnbuzzed Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Think about the name "Round 2". Maybe it has some meaning, like "the second time around" ?
zenrat Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) When will we see a new tool AMT kit? When they get round 2 it... Edited September 12, 2014 by zenrat
Brett Barrow Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Actually Brett, it's labeled as a MPC kit. The General Lee? Yeah, I know. I was lamenting the last few kits from the AMT label being so poor. I hope they do something new under the label, I have a good feeling they will, but no "inside" knowledge of anything in the works. Think about the name "Round 2". Maybe it has some meaning, like "the second time around" ? Tom Lowe's second time around in the model kit business. He founded Playing Mantis (Polar Lights/Johnny Lightning) then sold it to RC2. After seeing how RC2 seemed to be pretty much abandoning Polar Lights and their other model kit lines, he bought them back, along with AMT and MPC. Saved the brands, if you ask me. I don't say stuff like this often, and I don't say it lightly - but RC2 was the worst. The. Worst.
Daddyfink Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I just had a crazy thought. Maybe, just maybe, this tool originated with Polar LIghts. Considering how much show biz stuff they are doing and that almost all of it is in the Snap variety, could it be possible that this tool originated that way? Just a crazy thought
Greg Myers Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Think about the name "Round 2". Maybe it has some meaning, like "the second time around" ? Some of these kits are on their fifth, sixth and seventh lap.

Just a crazy thought That is a very good assumption. PL has been mainly releasing licensed properties lately. Interesting as to who's name gets put on the kits.
