Longbox55 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 The Chevy engine in that set is one of the nicer version done in 1/25 scale. Plus, there's some interesting diorama fodder in that kit (camshafts and crankshafts).
unclescott58 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) Again like the Chrysler/Corvair engines, I have the last non chrome versions of these engines. And like the other two engines I have yet to put them to use. That being said, these are very nice engines, and I'll be buying another set. Scott Edited August 5, 2014 by unclescott58
Longbox55 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I have a couple of sets of the non chromed versions also, Blueprinter issues. I'll be picking up these as well, plus that Competition T body, too.
jbwelda Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 funny thing to note is that the chevy engine is a clone of the Mooneyes engine complete with front mount blower and distinctive exhaust pipes! jb
charlie8575 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Hmm...I might be in for a box or two, too. As to the the chrome- that's why they make bleach and Super-Clean. Charlie Larkin
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Whoopee!!! I was running low on vintage issues.
DynoMight Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Just drop all the parts in bleach and ta da, a Chevy engine!
69NovaYenko Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) While at my LHS I ran across the newly issued AMT Engine Pack Chevy 283 & Pontiac 421. Even though I have several of the original Revell Engine Part Packs in my stash I couldn’t resist snatching up one of these kits. Overall, the chrome is well done and the detail is clean. Oddly, I have always been intrigued by all the internal engine detail that the AMT and Revell engine packs come with i.e.. cranks, cams, magnetos, holes in engine block for the pistons, B&M Hydro trannies, bell housings, clutch/flywheels etc. In addition to the old school drag car intake options i.e. front mounted Potvin blowers, Root style blowers as well as single, and dual carb setups. However, I equate using the internal engine parts to the armor , ship and airplane guys who spend endless hours to replicate nan-no second detail on the interior of their subjects only to button them up upon completion and the detail is hidden from view. Ooohhh well every man should march to the beat of his own drum. I was just wondering has anyone made use of any of the AMT/Revell engine parts packs .And, if so how did you use it …in a diorama where the engine was being built/assembled etc. I`m just look for some inspirational ideas on possible scenarios for the engine parts packs…if you have pixs please share. zenrat Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Use the camshafts as spreader bars between the frame horns of hot rods.
Snake45 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I'm putting the Pontiac in a drag Altered I hope to build entirely out of AMT Parts Packs parts, just to see if it can be done. I might at some point have some use for all those engine guts (workbench dio or some such), but I'm not going to glue them up inside the engines, that's for sure.
unclescott58 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) A little off subject. I was at a car show a few weeks ago were there was a T bucket with a Potvin supercharger. The first one I've ever seen in real life. A very nice guy owned the car. We talked quite a bit about it and the Potvin. One thing I was impressed with was how quiet the Potvin is when running compared to other superchargers. By the way, to keep the Potvin out in the open, where it could be seen. And to keep the old dragster look. He had a radiator and electric fan nicely setup on the back of car. At the same time he had a shorten T radiator shell up front. It looked great. Impressed the heck out of me. Scott Edited September 13, 2014 by unclescott58

unclescott58 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Sounds nice...wish you had pictures of it. Me too. I normally don't bring a camera with me to car shows. And my cell phone, which I rarely carry either, doesn't have one. Scott
1972coronet Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 It's really cool to see a B&M "Hydro-Stick" behind that Pontiac 421 !
Bernard Kron Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) I think the AMT motors are slightly nicer than their (surprisingly similar) Revell equivalents, with some particularly cool period parts that can't be found elsewhere (the Algon injectors on the Pontiac, for example). I built an AMT Parts Pack Altered based on the Pontiac mill and Parts Pack Competition T-Bucket a few years back. The Pontiac motor looks especially good de-blinged, I think. Very crisp and well detailed: Edited September 15, 2014 by Bernard Kron
unclescott58 Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Why would you not bring a camera? That is the reason I go, to get pics! First, I find that I can find much better pictures of different cars, and car related objects through other sources. Like the books and the internet. Plus it a pain trying to take photos at most cars at car shows. People standing in the way, etc. And rarely do I run across anything as unusual as a Potvin supercharger. Plus I've found looking at most other peoples car show pictures as kind of boring. I'm sure they'd find mine the same way. So, I just enjoy looking and talking with other people more at car shows. By the way, Lee. Your in the Twin Cities area. Another street rod buddy was telling me just last night, that the car I saw, shows up at the North St. Paul show frequently. So I expect to see it again in the future. But, I still will probably not have a camera with me. Scott
mnwildpunk Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Where is the north st. Paul show? I've never heard of it

jbwelda Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 that's what I was going to add too Bernard, how much nicer the engines in AMTs parts packs were than the Revell equivalents. they go together better, look better when together and are remarkably similar (industrial espionage?) to the Revell counterparts. jb
Greg Myers Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 and Bernard keeps showing us how nice they go together, too. Thanks. ya gotta take a good long look to see all the detail in there.
