Lunajammer
Seems to me these responses should distinguish between great guitar performers vs. popular guitar performers. Sometimes they're the same thing. Not always.
Guest
Back in 2003, Rolling Stone Magazine did there first 100 Greatest Guitarists list. At the time many felt it was more of a popularity contest rather than a true judge of ability. Joe Satriani didn't even make the list but Joan Jett was ranked 87th. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-guitarists-of-all-time-19691231 Edited August 18, 2014 by Modeltruckbuilder
doctor phillips
I cast a vote for Joe Bonamassa... He's really good (in my opinion). He'll get even better as time picks on.

Harry P.
I don't particularly care for guitarists who are technically good and and do all that fancy fretwork, but their sound is just... annoying. They may be good as far as technique, but I don't like the sound. I'm talking about mostly the heavy metal types–you know the kind I mean... guys like Yngwe Malmstein (sp?)–whose fingers are flying all over the frets and they're producing all sorts of sounds... but not a sound I like. To me, technical ability isn't the main qualification. It's the end result that counts. A few of my favorites (in no particular order, and leaving off a lot, but just the few that come to mind first): Jimi Hendrix Stevie Ray Vaughan Jimmy Page Roger McGuinn David Gilmour Mike Campbell Joe Walsh
Petetrucker07
A few unexpected guitarists, Adam Levine Heres him doing purple rain at the howard stern birthday bash. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M4vYDEBrwaA John Mayer is another guy who can play very well. slusher
Always liked Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen. Joan Jett can rock also. Lets not forget Slash also...
Harry P.
John Mayer is another guy who can play very well. And speaking of unexpected, Keith Urban. Yeah, he's a "country singer," but he can play! He and John Mayer get into it pretty good in the second half of this song...
Danno
I'm in with Les Paul, Roy Clark, Dick Dale, Eric Clapton, and Keith Urban. There are others, but these guys are consistently great.
