Harry, you mentioned napalm perhaps jokingly perhaps not, but if I smell burnt jet fuel, I am instantly transported back to the flight line.

It's a line from "Apocalypse Now"...

I spent 25 years on the bench as an automotive tech, but grew up in and around repair shops. Gotta say that I miss the smell of carb cleaner--not the garbage that comes in a can, but the 5 gallon pail we dipped disassembled carbs in that contained a liquid caustic enough to make your skin burn immediately. In the Hobby Lab, I think the smell of windex and Febreeze is best because it means that I finally broke down and gave it a thorough cleaning and a glancing brush with organization. In general--the smell of the dust burning off the pipes when I start the bike for the first ride of our short summer season. Anyone remember what leaded fuel smelled like when refeulling on a hot day? Sadly; all of these things cause enough brain damage to allow the public confession of the above facts...

The smell of epoxy and marble dust in the morning reminds me that we're working hard, but probably not making any money. I have a love/hate relationship with the smell of marble polishing. It stinks, but I enjoy doing it.

Upon further thought-Old Car aroma. The combination of old cloth upholstery and old oil and grease is instantly familiar and pleasing.

Polane has a nice slightly sweet smell. I like acetone as well.

Oh, I know where it is from, just didn't know if you had experienced the smell first hand.

Homer Simpson at the 'Try N Save' -"i'm going to smell the new tires". Done that.

I would agree with the smells of a woodworking shop. Great scents.

I am with Bill on this. Love the smell of Oak when it is cut.

Second is the smell of high octane racing fuel while driving down the street with the window open .

Gotta disagree here

Cutting oak or Poplar smells like Baby farts... and if it's not yours? It's not good

Now cutting Pine!!. now that is a smell

LOL Thats funny ! But I do not like the smell of pine like I do Oak. Mahogany makes me sneeze. Not a fan of that smell.

All my kids farts and diapers did not smell like any wood. I am glad I don't work with wood if they did.... :o

It's a toss up for me, between cutting oil in the machine shop and putting a piece of spruce through the drum sander.

C'mon you wood guys. Oak, pine, poplar, all second rate. Cherry is king! BTW, mahogany makes everybody sneeze (sooner or later). The best smell in the universe (that doesn't involve a female) is freshly plowed ground!

Toss up with the smell just after a passing of a thundershower after a day of making that freshly plowed ground!
