Heart of Gold is my favorite Neil Young song, and actually one of my all-time favorite songs by anyone. I can even deal with his whiny nasaly voice on that song, it's just that good! And it also supports my long-held belief that every song that features a harmonica is a good song... B)

I guess I thought you'd be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don't know what ya got until it's gone
And I found out a little too late

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

They laugh at our clothes, they laugh at our hair

The girls walk by with the nose in the air.

So go ahead, put us down

One of these days we will turn it around

Won't be long, mark my words

You didn't like Neil when he was with the Buffalo Springfield ?

can't really say. didn't do a lot of listening to Buffalo Springfield. didn't Stills do most of the lead singing for them? I don't know, just didn't like his voice, I do have "cinnamon girl" on 45 though. so I guess he can't be all bad.

I was born in the backwoods

Of a two-bit nowhere town

Fathered up some rock 'n' roll, baby

So you mothers could boogie down

I ain't whistling, Dixie

No, I'm a rebel with a groove, yeah

Bad to the bone

George Thorogood? (sp)

I was going to say that, but I was hesitant as the first line didn't sound like it. The Thorogood song goes...

"And gazed in wide wonder

At the joy they had found

The head nurse spoke up

And said, 'Leave this one alone'"
