Snake45 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 He was talking about Bob Dylan. As a sidenote, I like Randy Newman. I've got at least four of his albums on vinyl.... I think everybody should listen to the whole of Little Criminals once over. He was talking about The Prophet Tom Petty. As for Randy Newman, I Love LA is one of my favorite songs EVER. But the only album of his I've ever owned is Land of Dreams, on cassette. It took me several listens to "get it" but it's some pretty good stuff. I assume you have that one? If so, Double Bonus Points question for you: What other, much older song did he base "Follow the Flag" on?
Danny Lectro Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Ok ok I got one I got my head checked by a jumbo jet It wasn't easy but nothing is noooo Blur, "Song 2" I love the fuzz bass on that song.

tubbs Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I don't think this one has been posted yet: Got a surprise from my honeyGot a message from my girlWhen she picked up a pen from beside her bedAnd wrote me a scribbled note Said, she'd be coming back to see meThat she would be visiting real soonGonna get up from her long white bedAnd leave this cold white roomhave no idea, but the only type of music that used the word "honey" is country, so that leaves me out. then again, it's just a guess.

tubbs Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Back to Tom Petty... Yes, technically he has a lousy singing voice. It's nasal and whiny and sort of annoying (which is odd, because his speaking voice is very different). If you can't get past the voice, then I can see how you will never like any of his music. But if you can get past his voice, and are able to enjoy the songs, then you're in for a treat because he has written a ton of great songs. And the Heartbreakers are a great band that can really play. agreed, and there are a lot of bands/groups that land in this category. and yes, I hit him pretty hard, just to get some conversation going. I think he still suck, and really an not a fan of his music. if you really think about it, what rock and rollers have better than average singing voices? here are some right off the top of my head. Freddie Mercury - in a league all by himself!! Ian Anderson - Jethro Tull Glenn Shorrock - little river band Paul Carrack - squeeze Alex Harvey - joking (how many said "what the..." on that one. Bruce Dickenson - Iron Maiden to me, these are guys who can sing, it's not just a style.

Look at George Michael great voice and singer but after faith nothing. Madonna a product of the 80's. Loverboy and Little River Band are playing in small casinos like Tunica, Ms . Some bands like Kiss and Tom Petty are still going on. Def Leppard and Styx still going strong and touring.

ChrisBcritter Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Like the smoke that rises from a flame I hear that homesick ????? call my name Telling foreign tales that are not new Listening for the lies when nothing's true And he's waiting for me to perform... (Never could decipher that word in the second line - sounds like "hobo" or "Volvo". Hint: Not the Doors but sounds a lot like them.)
