1972coronet Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) Arroyo Parkway c.1940 . This 'parkway' was Los Angeles' first real Freeway . It was built on / around the Figueora Street Tunnels ; traffic originally ran both directions , until c.1942. If this scenery looks familiar ; this was the freeway where the opening scenes to Duel (1972) were filmed : ( beginning at the 1:20 mark , ending at the 2:20 mark) Santa Monica Freeway prior to its opening-to-traffic . Of special note here : The Harbor Freeway was still signed as "US 6" . By c.1964 , its number was changed to CA 11 , and ultimately , I-110. Edited September 4, 2014 by 1972coronet
