JohnnyK Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Hi, I just completed my new spray booth and would like to share some photos with everyone. I live in the Chicago area and became tired of using a cardboard box located in my garage as a spray booth, especially in the winter. So I built a spray booth with an exhaust fan that I installed in my basement. The first photo is the completed spray booth. The dimensions are 30 inches wide, 20 inched high and 14 inches deep. The second photo is the bottom plenum and the blower. A furnace filter sits on the unpainted wood cleats that also support the top box. The third photo is the top of the booth which is made from a plastic storage container that I purchased from Ikea. A metal screen is located on the unpainted wood boards to support the model that is being painted. Photo four is the back of the spray booth and shows the blower and switch box. The blower is ducted through the outside wall of my house. The switch box controls the light and the blower. Photo five gives you an idea of the size of the spray booth. That is A Revell 1932 Ford sitting inside the booth. JohnnyK
Jantrix Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 That looks like it will do the job. Well done.
rmvw guy Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Looks good to me. It looks pretty much like the one I built a few years ago and still in service. A must have for a serious hobbyist and not too costly. I keep the lid on mine when not in use to minimize the dust. Edited September 5, 2014 by rmvw guy
JohnnyK Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 That's a good idea to keep the cover on to minimize the dust. I'll need to go to Ikea and buy the cover.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 You should be good to go! That surface of the box will be easy to keep clean as well.
mikemodeler Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Looks simple but effective! I would think it will be easy to keep clean and with the tub being clear, it helps bring more light to the booth. About how much did this cost you? Where did you source the fan?
935k3 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Nice job. If you want to keep it clean line it with freezer paper and change the paper when it gets built up.
JohnnyK Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 I bought the fan at Grainger. I will need to see what model the fan is. All in all, the spray booth cost over $200.
